i'm probably going to get shit for this but i don't think it's THAT bad. the costumes are definitely horrendous. they shouldn't be showing so much skin. but as far as the choreography goes it's not completely inappropriate. i would probably change some of the moves though.

My husband's little sister is in the 8th grade and crazy involved with dance. I have been absolutely shocked by some of the outfits and dance moves she has. She is super innocent (family is freewill baptist) so I'm not sure they 'get' the innuendos but I would NOT let my kid continue.

some of those more inappropriate moves ruin the dance in my opinion. they don't have the bodies (duh) to express what is even intended so it seems not only inappropriate but pointless. they're quite good technically so change a couple of those moves and it's a 1st overall!

I mean I don't think the costumes are that bad...they aren't much different than what you would see a little girl who is in a bikini on the beach would wear. I mean when I was younger I had a two piece suit that covered as much as those do. But then again they weren't made to look sexy either.
Some of the moves are probably a little too mature for them and I think the ending of the routine looks to be a little too mature, but I think they are actually pretty talented.

Impressive stuff.

There is a fine line in these dance classes. People get outraged, but for me, it's like, "Oh, so the group before that had their tummies covered and did three less hip thrusts, that's cool with you?" The whole scene is kinda pervy to begin with.


And, keep in mind, these young girls have already heard and seen a great deal that we deem as inappropriate. It's disempowering to deny them the moves, the costumes, and the music that they are inundated with just because they are "too young." I'll bet there's some budding feminists in that bunch of sexed-up children...

I've covered eastern and national cheer leading and dance competitions for the past two years as a photographer, I can tell you that shit like that is normal and disturbing. I can only wonder why the parents are encouraging elementary and middle school girls to wear a two piece and do moves that slutty girls use at the clubs.

Sure its the new age and our culture has changed, but shouldn't I feel really wrong for taking hundreds upon thousands of pictures of these girls "shaking their booty" and "thrusting their non existent tits" in the air?

Although I do love it when its an all high school and college event. Then, its not so creepy.

The problem, I believe, is that there are 17-24 year old women who run/teach at dance studios coming up with the routines. They think it's cool to do stuff like this, so they teach their little girls to do it and they say to themselves, "awwwww, ain't that cute."
