I've been unusually fatigued for a couple of weeks. It'd be worrisome even if I weren't moving 2/3 across the country in two weeks - it's on the level of mono. I told my husband a week or two ago that I'd see a doctor for it, but didn't; I told him I'd go today, but am not because I want to wait til my regular doc is off vacation. So I have made an appointment for Wednesday.A friend who is living with us holds some medical beliefs that I don't think are very well thought out, is very much influenced by the placebo effect, and is more than a little bit of a hypochondriac, thinks that I have vitamin B deficiency, and was urging me last night to take a B supplement, and then, when Z and I were discussing this at lunch, went and got one for me to take. I feel this info is relevant because were she not present, vitamin supplements wouldn't have entered the discussion, and due to her thought process, the anecdotal evidence she provides in support of the vitamin supplement is not applicable, IMO.I refused.I feel my husband got irrationally upset (like, storming out of the house and slamming the door. This is SOOOOOO unusual for him); he thinks I should have just taken the pill she offered because what could it have hurt, and because he asked me to.I think "no good reason not to" is not a good enough reason to do so, when I've got a damn dr's visit in <48hrs. Give me something partially convincing like "because I know it works, based on X, Y, Q" or "I looked B deficiency, and I think she's onto something". I refused to take it on the grounds that I think a vast majority of vitamin supplements are unnecessary and bunch of hocus pocus placebo shenangians.I should add: this is a "let TWW give some insight into who should be looking for a reality check in the mail" poll. We're both stubborn as hell, and neither of us is going to admit we were anything resembling "wrong" on this issue. [Edited on May 17, 2010 at 2:30 PM. Reason : regardless, everyone needs moar titties]

Whoa whoa whoa!Husband? What was all of that "one in a million" talk?
5/17/2010 2:20:45 PM
lol
5/17/2010 2:21:13 PM
perhaps this spat can be smoothed over if you take a dose of vitamin Z
5/17/2010 2:21:59 PM
I expected this to be a BlackDog thread
5/17/2010 2:22:55 PM
Take it to shut them up. Vitamin B will likely not help you at all, but it won't hurt you either. If you truly think it's a placebo, then taking it won't do a damn thing except get them off your back.
5/17/2010 2:23:29 PM
there are a million reasons why you can be feeling fatigued. Vitamin B deficiency can cause fatigue, but it may not be the reason why you are fatigued. Let the doctor decide
5/17/2010 2:24:42 PM
i think you're in the right. there was no reason to take the pill.what are your symptoms?
5/17/2010 2:24:43 PM
I say hold off on taking anything until you go to your doctor on Weds. When you do a blood test there, you'll find out what the REAL issue is. If you take supplements now then you'll throw it off.. I am curious to see if you really do have a B deficiency. Wednesday is not too far away.
5/17/2010 2:25:16 PM
Is it just meOr is it less than cool to air your grievances about your husband in a public forum which he frequentsMan I would fuckin smack you for that shit
5/17/2010 2:25:45 PM
Just take the fucking pill. It's a vitamin. Chances are you're not getting enough of them anyway. And you'd feel like a fucking buffoon if you ended up feeling better.
5/17/2010 2:26:18 PM
i would do some research on vitamin deficiencies. fwiw i went to the doctor feeling fatigued (like severely fatigued) and i had a severe vitamin D deficiency and i was really anemic.a lot of things could cause fatigue. i mean i guess it "couldn't hurt" to take the vitamin b supplement but i'm kinda with you a) i don't like taking medicine "just cause" and b) if you're already going to the doctor within 48 hours, just wait for the doctorALSO because like what if you really are deficient in something and you take it and then go to the doctor and your bloodwork comes back normal bc you took it but really you do need to be on some kind of supplement. i'd just wait if you are going to the doctor already.
5/17/2010 2:27:00 PM
^Yup.Also, Vitamin D is usually my issue.
5/17/2010 2:27:51 PM
vitamin D was a problem with me too
5/17/2010 2:28:22 PM
^^ hehe i guess i responded super slow cause you and like 3 other people already said what i said. whoops yea i'm on a Vit D Rx strength supplement (vit D does not equal penis haha). i didn't know it was so common but apparently it is and i felt so much better once i started taking the vitamin![Edited on May 17, 2010 at 2:29 PM. Reason : .]
5/17/2010 2:29:08 PM
ibt the "i got some vitamin d for you" pickup lines
5/17/2010 2:30:11 PM
fwiw, "5 hour energy" is mostly just a huge dose of vitamin Bso at best, one vitamin will make you feel a little more energetic for a little while; at worst, it will have no effect5 hour energy's main effect on me is that it makes my wallet $2 lighter
5/17/2010 2:30:50 PM
Tl,dr
5/17/2010 2:32:00 PM
the placebo effect is still an effect
5/17/2010 2:33:34 PM
5/17/2010 2:34:14 PM
most people should take a multivitamin every day anyhow.
5/17/2010 2:34:42 PM
5/17/2010 2:36:09 PM
Iron is an even bigger issue for me.. let us know what happens on Wednesday!
5/17/2010 2:36:14 PM
if you people would get outside you might get some vitamin D
5/17/2010 2:37:19 PM
^^ same! anemia and vit d are my issues and BOTH contribute to fatigue.
5/17/2010 2:37:27 PM
no more than a regular cup of coffee[Edited on May 17, 2010 at 2:38 PM. Reason : probably less caffeine than one of those huge starbucks thing you people drink]
5/17/2010 2:38:23 PM
Your husband is mad because he told you to do something, and you wouldn't?1950's?You shouldn't just take pills to take pills. Research on your own/ask the pharma/DOC.
5/17/2010 2:39:46 PM
you're an idiot
5/17/2010 2:40:19 PM
5/17/2010 2:41:46 PM
Is it just me or Is it always women that have the out of whack vitamins and other deficiencies?Ya'lls bodies are complicated as fuck. [Edited on May 17, 2010 at 2:42 PM. Reason : I thought this thread was gonna be about birth control ]
5/17/2010 2:42:23 PM
Yeah because we have crazy cycles
5/17/2010 2:43:20 PM
mehfor some reason i thought this was going to be about the morning after pill
5/17/2010 2:43:27 PM
Is it just meorIs it always women complaining about things like fatigue, rather than just sucking it up?
5/17/2010 2:44:21 PM
^^]
5/17/2010 2:44:24 PM
I couldn't get through the first half of the post. I haven't had my afternoon cup of coffee yet.
5/17/2010 2:44:31 PM
myself, and everyone on TWW reserve the right to point and laugh at you if you goto the doc and he/she tells you that you have a vitamin B deficiency.jus sayn...[Edited on May 17, 2010 at 2:49 PM. Reason : maybe you are prego.]
5/17/2010 2:48:32 PM
i don't get why it would be laughable. i mean wouldn't it be better to get her bloodwork done without fucking it up by taking vitamins so that she doesn't get skewed results? isn't it better to know what the actual problem is (even if it is vit b) before popping pills?
5/17/2010 2:49:52 PM
48 hours vitamin b will be long gone.

5/17/2010 3:08:47 PM
