Pretty sure the transistor is more important than the iPhone, internet or PCs, considering that it is used in all of those and a shit load more things we use on a second to second basis.

The iPhone is a pretty cool thing but its not much more than a PDA from 10 years ago that actually caught on and is more or less open source.

1) The iPhone probably belongs at 45 or lower on that list, assuming most of the rest of it stays the same.

2) For fucks sake, the gun isn't on that list? Nuclear weaponry isn't on that list? Not that they're the most good things in the world, but in terms of importance and influence, they've certainly had more impact than the Clothes Peg.

No, because they are rating consumer products. I suppose i could go back to electricity but that is way too vague and i think consumer products had probably 1000x more advance within 50 years of the first transistor than 200 years after the discovery of electricity in the modern era and thats before we speak of computers or most larger ICs

actually walls, you're right about electricity - there was a lot of rivalry between dc and ac power, and Tesla had to invent his own style of lightbulb cause Edison flatly refused to let him use his design once he got beat on the contract.
