10 to 20 years ago aren't funny anymore? I still laugh at The Andy Griffith Show, but over the past few weeks I have seen reruns of Seinfeld, Amen, Cheers, and some other shows that were popular back in the day. I don't laugh at any of them anymore. For some reason I laughed at the 30 second video of Family Guy that was posted in the "RIP Ernie..." thread. I think South Park does a pretty good job making fun of the world and Family Guy is good too. I also like watching Two and a Half Men. Have the perverted minds of the people who write the scripts for tv today caused society to not enjoy good comedy anymore, or was society just that lame in the 80s and 90s?[Edited on May 22, 2010 at 9:25 PM. ^^So you don't like any episodes of tv shows that are about pre-2002?^Seinfeld is good, but I guess once you have seen the same episode 2 million times then it isn't funny anymore.[Edited on May 22, 2010 at 9:33 PM. Reason : .]

it's all relative. planes, trains, and automobile still brings the lols every single time to me even though it's from 1987 and "dated" as fuck. the way we get along--or don't get along--with each other will always have humor waiting to be tapped

fresh prince of bel-air, never forget

The 80's is more than 10-20 years ago.

Seinfeld episodes I've watched umpteen zillion times, but every once in awhile I find a line or thing that's still funny to me. Never watched Cheers. Was Amen ever actually funny? I remember it being largely forgettable except for having Sherman Hemsley. It's kind of a hit-or-miss thing. Many of the jokes and conventions from older sitcoms have been run into the ground, so they're not fresh anymore. Plus the hair, fashion, and clothing can be distracting (for me at least).
5/22/2010 10:01:25 PM
^^Yeh, but Seinfeld was still going in the mid 90s and was funny.

The first 2-3 seasons of south park are not at all funny to me now. Early-mid 90s Simpsons is still funny though.
5/23/2010 12:12:03 AM
^ Because the later Simpson's is garbage.

it probably has something to do with the notion that you don't have a temporal attachment to andy griffith
5/23/2010 4:59:57 PM
^^No, I just think some of the older comedies from the late 80s/early 90s aren't as funny as they used to be.

i used to enjoy nick a nite....they had good stuff like family matters, home improvement, fresh prince, etc (the tgif stuff) but now.....i think all it is now is george lopez which

i have a hard time watching old seinfeld reruns too... not sure what it is...

It's because the only thing funny to people anymore is something that is somewhat shocking or random. Comedy Devolution. -> -> -> -> -> ->
5/23/2010 6:49:54 PM
^True. It started with The Simpsons being a PG rated cartoon and then came Bevis & Butthead making references to boobs and saying other things that were not G rated. Seinfeld brought in some religious humor and references to sex. Then came South Park which can be really perverted and they make fun of the world. Then came Family Guy which also can be very perverted and has some rated R humor in it too. Then came Two and a Half Men which is a show about 2 brothers and their sex lives. I don't watch every comedy show on tv, but from what I remember back in the day, the 80s and 90s weren't quite as perverted as tv is today. I don't remember Coach, The Cosby Show, Cheers, Home Improvement, etc being as R rated as comedy has become today. I traditionally watch sports, the Discovery/History/NGC/TLC, etc, and South Park. Maybe that has caused me to have a poor sense of humor.

I've got a pretty keen witand I've never found Seinfeld terribly funny.I should clarify...i don't think it's unfunny, but I could never get the fanaticism. Never drew me in.[Edited on May 23, 2010 at 7:36 PM. Reason : sdfdsasa]

So last night I watched "My Cousin Vinny" on FMC. That is still funny. I guess not all comedy from the 80s and 90s is bad.

Laugh tracks are dead and shows that use them are generally less funny than shows that do not.
