I am thinking about ordering one of these for my deck.http://www.bettymills.com/shop/product/view/Smokers%27%20Outpost/SMO711402.html?source=froogle2&utm_source=froogle2&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=parts&utm_keyword=SMO711402&utm_content=JansanWithout the cigarette buts the yard would not be that dirty. ]

you could probably just "borrow" one of those from some local establishment. We always used buckets or terracotta pots, and it worked fine... had to empty it maybe once every 4 months

I just got one of these. Best of both worlds. I've never owned a charcoal grill before, but I wanted to learn. I haven't even bought a gas tank for it yet though. I've been loving the charcoal.A chimney starter is key. Starts the coals right up with no lighter fluid taste.[Edited on June 2, 2010 at 9:17 AM. Reason : pic]

I looked at that exact grill ^The reviews online were not too good. I have $200 in gift cards to home depot to buy a grill with, I could not decide what to get so I got this kettle grill at big lots for $29 to see how I do cooking on charcoal. I may not even get another gas grill. hotcurlz24 is about to buy a house and a bunch of the ones we have looked at have the gas grills that are hooked in to the home gas service.

i like to have a charcoal and a gas grill on hand. charcoal is definitely better flavor and all that, but when you get home from work and just wanna grill up something really quick for supper, it's nice to not have to deal with the prep time of charcoal. i grill almost all my meats in the summer because it keeps the house from getting hot from cooking with the range.

you really don't need anything fancy when it comes to charcoal. what you have is perfect. combine cooking on a charcoal grill with some dutch oven cooking as well and you can make some wonderful meals.
6/2/2010 9:47:06 AM
^i agree. a weber kettle style grill and a chimney starter like you have are all the casual griller would need.

charcoal? propane?this is a pointless war. cook on whatever you prefer, but you better be good at it. don't waste my time if you don't know what you're doing at the helm of your grill. personally, i use propane. easier to clean the grill, IMO, though i do appreciate a good steak or burger cooked on classic mesquite. it just isn't what i normally use.

I too, use a chargrillerit isn't super high quality or anything, but it has lasted well for me.
6/2/2010 10:32:19 AM
I love the taste of charcoal, but you gotta make sure you know what you are doing (not good to use when you are drunk because you might miss the opportunity of cooking). Propane is nice because you can go out, turn it on, and in a few minutes be grilling, and then when you are done, turn it right back off... great for grilling by yourself. just my 2cents

I just recently watched Pat Neely make smoked catfish on his char-griller with the smoke box attachment. It looked banging.

^^ just find a nice child to get your grill ready so when you come home you just put the meat on it and start cooking without all the fuss of getting everything set up[Edited on June 2, 2010 at 12:26 PM. Reason : .]

we had one outside the frat fort for years. the occassionally caught on fire from the inside because 90% of the damn house smoked and stuffed it full of lit butts.
