how do you keep track of what you want to get done? I've used so many things - pen/paper, outlook, google tasks, gmail, calendar printouts, whiteboard, corkboard+index cards, agilezen.com, rememberthemilk.com, and i never seem to have a consistent grip on all the things i want to get done today, this week, this month, this year, etc etcwhat do you use? what has been the most successful?]

For day-to-day things I prefer a piece of paper because for some reason I really enjoy crossing things off. For deadlines at work I put them on my Google calendar.

I've got calendar that I keep in my work binder for my work related stuff, and a word document on my laptop at home that has more generic things I want to accomplish.

Smartphone: Notepad app and Alarm app.

My only advice is don't make planning so complicated that it is something extra you have to put on your to do list.

this will surely result in a parody thread

google calendarI create events with due dates in the titles so that they stare at me every time I open google calendarI log the time I spend on tasks and projects and any details I may need to cover my ass (job numbers, descriptions, who I worked with)when something is done, I simply end the eventI figured I can't lose it like a cell phone, PDA or plannerworks best for me
7/13/2010 11:57:36 AM
^^honestly I read this at first as dodo listand as for me... I don't keep lists really- just kinda figure out what I need to do at the beginning of the day and then do it
7/13/2010 12:00:08 PM
Pen/paper & scratch off as I go.
7/13/2010 12:00:44 PM
^me tooi have so much to do in a week it's ridiculous.i once showed cody my planner last semester and he flipped a little.the thing that helps me - i pick three (sometimes 4) things i HAVE to get done TODAY. sometimes theyre stupid and menial (like sweep the kitchen or call someone or make a dr's appointment) and sometimes theyre huge or time consuming (write the rough draft of a paper, clean out the fridge).the only 2 rules i have.... 1.if i have a huge thing to do, ill make sure its the only huge thing i have to do all day, sometimes the only thing i have to do. 2. i have to complete the list. end of story.

I used gmail calendar while i was in school. simply because I had due dates all the time. Projects due, homework due, tests to take. You need a caldendar tool for that. At work I use sticky notes or little peices of paper to write what I need to do down on. Most of the stuff I need to do don't have due-dates. I just need to do them. I can write them all and organize them out across my desk to see what I can do now or later. When im done with the note, I stick them on a stick (like what waitresses do when they ring up your ticket). I always have to go back to see what i've done.[Edited on July 13, 2010 at 1:02 PM. Reason : s]

7/13/2010 1:11:50 PM
most of the work stuff i write on a piece of paper because i, too, enjoy crossing things off. personal things like appointments and what not i just use my iphone calendar. honestly though, i rarely have enough personal errands to necessitate a list.

At work I use my whiteboard plus our email system's calendar. Outside of work I use my google calendar and astrid task as well as spiral notebook for some stuff.
I still try to remember everything, and I inevitably forget something important.

http://www.toodledo.comIt's free, easy to use, and comes in smartphone app version (syncs with website).I have lists for everything: birthday gift ideas, car maintenance records, groceries, gift cards I own, bill payment schedules, musings, people who owe me money and vice versa, chores, work to-do list, home to-do list, etc.
8/4/2011 11:25:57 AM
I use Evernote as well, just not for a to-do list. I use it for ideas related to things I am writing. It's an idea locker for me. I'll wake up in the middle of the night and put stuff in it.
8/4/2011 12:43:28 PM

Pepsi added to my to-do list today{Pepsi wants me to order monthly now in order to retain the equipment that I've had for 5 years.Last time I placed an order was November of last year because I've wanted to catch up on product that they force me to order. I'm probably going to have to get rid of my fountain machine and my pepsi cooler and buy my own $2000 cooler and just keep bottles in stock. It costs $1.89 to order a pepsi 2 liter from pepsiIt only cost $0.78 to $1.00 to buy a pepsi at the grocery store. It is completely unfair and enough for me to tell pepsi to take their equipment and fuck off.}might use trello to catalog the process [Edited on September 14, 2011 at 8:42 PM. I used to keep a notecard or a notepad in my pocket, and I also used a day planner calendar. when i acquired my first iPhone, I transitioned to the notepad program. I have, like, 5 pages, with one being the day-to-day to-do list. I also use the calendar feature on the phone.
