I'm certain this has been done before, but it's Chit Chat and it wasn't within the last year that I could see...But I am 28 and I NEED eight hours of sleep at minimum to be able to function the whole day without loads of caffeine.On a typical weekday when I'm working 7:30-4:30/5:00 and workout/run I am honestly ready for bed by 10:00, sometimes even earlier.Yet my roommate can do the same and be up until 12:00 or 12:30 with no problem.Am I the odd one or the normal one?

Go to bed about 11-11:30 PM and get up at 7 am. I could sleep more, but once I get up and get moving I'm fine for the rest of the day.

I've always been a morning person. I felt like I did the best work when I got up at 5:00am to go to the gym and from 7:30am to lunch I feel like I got way more done than in the afternoon... so I'm sure that has something to do with my sleeping patterns...[Edited on July 27, 2010 at 10:15 AM. About 7.5 hours seems best for me. Between 6-7.5 I'm good for a while, but several days in a row starts to mess with me. If I get over 8.5 (when I'm not making up for too little sleep the preceding days) I am lethargic the next day.

I guess I'm on the "need more sleep" range than most. It's certainly not because I'm out of shape and I very rarely to ever get tired during the day to the point where I feel like I need a nap. Just everyone's different I guess.I wonder if going two years getting 4-5 hours of sleep a night Monday-Thursday and being out for 16-17 hours straight doing things all those days had any effect on my sleeping cycle a year removed from that?

I can't imagine consistently getting 4-6 hours of sleep a night is healthy if you're an active person physically?How would your body ever give itself time to repair and refresh? I don't knowI do know, however, that going to bed at 11 every night would put a major burden on my social life (both in real life and on xbox) and if I can maintain an adequate physique and level of overall health with 5-6 hours, I don't see the need to force myself to try to sleep more.

usually get about 8 hours sleep. anything less than 7.5 and i'm a little tired. any time i don't set an alarm i can easily wind up sleeping for 13+ hours.during those rare times when i go without an alarm and without anything i have to do i easily wind up in a cycle of sleeping for 13 hours at a time and staying up for 23 hours at a time before getting tired again. if only i lived on a planet that took 36 hours to do a rotation it'd be perfect.

i've been getting 4 hours of quality sleep the past 3 or 4 nights.my back is peeling thanks to a wicked sunburn i got last week and the itchiness is killing mei have energy right now, but i'm sure i'll hit the wall in a few hours

^^that's oddI was in a car crash in 2002 which involved a fairly serious knock to the head ever since then I've preferred to get at least 9 hrs sleep/nightdifferent head traumae for different folks, I suppose

i usually need the standard 8 but i'm ok with getting a little less than that. if i get more than 8 that's when i start to feel groggy and cranky the following day.

I usually only get 6-7 hours of sleep on a week night. 11-12am at night till 645-7am. Those hours usually net me around 6 hours of actual sleep (throwing aside time spent trying to fall asleep and the occasional twilight peeing session). I've found that getting more sleep (7-8) makes me tired but if I get around 9 I'm in tip top shape. I think my sleep pattern works best in 3's (3,6,9). I'm not a morning person so I absolutely loathe the hours of my job (8-5). If it was up to me I'd go to bed at 1-2 every night and get up around 9-10 every morning. That's what I've done during my periods of unemployment Oddly enough, unless I get absolutely blasted the night before I cannot get more than 8 hours of sleep without trying really hard. I go to sleep around 2-2:30 most nights and get up between 7 and 7:30. So I get around 5 hours most nights. Sometimes I take a quick nap during the day or fall asleep on the couch at the end of the night before going to bed, but not every day. Try to "catch up" on the weekends by sleeping 8 to 10 hours Friday and Saturday.I need...more than this. 7 hours would probably be ideal. I feel like the walking dead most days, useless until I've had my morning coffee and only marginally better thereafter. I have trouble getting to work on time because I can't drag myself out of bed at the first (or second or often third) alarm and I want to crawl back under the covers for a few moments more sleep after I've showered. As a younger man I used to be sharp and quick, now I'm dull and slow--I don't think I've gotten dumber as I've gotten older, I think I'm just chronically sleep deprived. 5 hours per night just doesn't cut it for someone who will be 30 in a month.The problem is that I'm a night owl in a morning person's world. I stumble through the workday, brightening up for parts of the late morning and afternoon, and at night I'm full of energy. I don't go to sleep at midnight because I'm usually alert and interested in whatever I'm doing and have no desire to. Plus, my girlfriend is more of a night owl than me even--she rarely goes to bed before 3 AM, but she doesn't have to wake up early so she ends up getting enough sleep where I'm expected at work at 8. And despite the tremendous positive effect it would have if I could force myself to turn in by midnight, it just doesn't want to happen. Old habits and natural night-owl tendencies die rather hard, it would seem.
