I guess this is as good as time as any to offer to answer any radio related questions again...
1) Days of listening to cellphones on scanners are long gone....you will still pick up cordless phones here and there but even those are going full digital and cannot be monitored anymore...

2) All of the Iphone & Android Scanner Apps use Radioreference.com as the backend audio provider. Yes, even the ones that say "Scanamerica". The guy who owns Radioreference.com bought Scanamerica awhile back and sooner or later the ScanAmerica URL will redirect to RR.com.
Since I own a Droid my personal Android choice is "Scanner Radio" because it was developed by Gordon, the guy behind ScanAmerica.

A few more RPD Callsigns/Unit Numbers to help you out:

The Chief is RPD1.
Deputy Chief is RPD2.
The majors are RPD3, 4, 5, and 8. (Yep, they skipped to 8 so the Special Ops major could have an "8" like most of the Special Ops units fall in the 800's).

The captains of the districts are 100, 200, 300, etc. Lieutenants are 104, 204, 304, etc. (No, I have no idea why they skipped x01, x02, x03 for each district.)

Sergeants would be 110, 120, 210, 220, 310, 320, etc. Southeast (the old D24) is so large, they also have a 430 sergeant.

How do they distinguish between different cars on the same beat? 612 being the NCSU beat. I hear things like 612baker, does that mean it's the second car on the 612 beat?

Is each incident given a number like 6543? Or am I mistaking their talkgroup id's. I see your sticky thread on radiorefernce now.

What are the regular codes for raleigh? (not the ten codes) I assume code 2 is a fire.
