Good childhood friend is turning 21 in 2 weeks, and I can't make the festivities. Figured I'd send him something [no homo]. Ideas? Leather flask w/ engraving or something? Preferably something I can get in Raleigh, not online.[Edited on August 16, 2010 at 11:07 AM. Reason : .]

I'd go with the flask idea. Assuming he is a drinker that is. It's always a cool thing to have, and now that he can buy liquor legally it fits the occasion.

90% chance he won't use the flask often, if ever.Buy him a nice bottle of booze, like a respectable bourbon or something.
8/16/2010 12:20:37 PM
for seriousthe breathalyzer is more practical

buy him a hooker and some cocaine.

Don't get a flask. Fucking thing will end up in a drawer after one or two football/hockey games if it even takes that long. Get him a bottle of good booze (a nice bourbon or scotch perhaps) that he can enjoy with friends on a night that is not his 21st birthday.

^ Kurtis knows what's up.

At least a flask you can use a bunch of times instead of just one drinking night. Just because you don't personally use one doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.

^ I used a gift cetificate to buy one of those years ago thinking that I would know whether or not I should drive after hanging out with friends.Instead it turned every night into a savage competition to see who could blow the highest.

^^^ If you're drinking a bottle of expensive bourbon all in one night, you're doing it wrong.^ haha but that's the best part of having one.[Edited on August 16, 2010 at 1:55 PM. Reason : a]

knowing provides NO EXCUSE for driving impairedno reason NOT to make a game out of it too
8/16/2010 1:59:21 PM
It was more an issue of knowing if I was over .08 after having a few beers over the course of a couple of hours, not thinking "I'm only at .18, I'm ok to drive."

I bought my friend a flask for xmas one year and he uses it all the time. I rarely use mine though. Just depends on the personIf your friend is an alchy who drinks liquor on the reg its a good gift

Also consider what other people might be getting him. I mean, flask and bottle of booze are like the top two obvious things for someone turning 21, so odds are good that he'll already be getting them. If he has other people who are buying him anything.

congrats! your next milestone birthday is now 30!
8/16/2010 3:36:47 PM
I second the hooker and coke idea.
8/16/2010 3:42:26 PM
Naw, next milestone is 24 when you can rent a car without them treating you like a reckless criminal.

X and hookers
8/16/2010 3:46:18 PM
I swear, at leasttttttt hire him a stripper. It will be the best money you have ever spent and he will remember that much longer than some shitty leather flask.
