same news story comes out every august

Got to be pretty dumb not to get accepted into the 5th or 6th best school in your own state

I think this is a nationwide thing. Methodist University is overbooked by around 300 students. People are getting bumped to evening classes without their knowledge just to have enough room ....but I graduated so, pfft - don't care
8/17/2010 2:30:04 PM
this explains the unseen flow of confused freshmen around campus... especially the two girls walking in circles around fox labs looking for HA201!
8/17/2010 8:51:09 PM
I think this is happening across all the cash-strapped state schools.
8/17/2010 8:55:38 PM
if you can't get into state, you're either a sluggard or a moron
8/17/2010 8:56:26 PM
8/17/2010 8:59:35 PM
actually, no, because not everyone who's accepted will attend
8/17/2010 9:03:38 PM
^^not a "genius" i am guessingto have 4500 enroll, 12-15k were probably accepted[Edited on August 17, 2010 at 9:04 PM. Reason : ^^]
8/17/2010 9:03:41 PM
So what you're saying is that the system is like selling 16,000 seats to an 8,000 seat stadium and denying people at the door?
8/17/2010 9:05:34 PM
no, he's saying 12000 were offered tickets to the show and only 4500 showed up
8/17/2010 9:07:10 PM
No, he is saying 12000 RSVPed to the show and only 4500 showed up
8/17/2010 9:08:28 PM
I was surprised by how many people had applied to the graduate school this year. They told us this morning they had 14,000 applications this year.
8/17/2010 9:09:05 PM
Why does it surprise you in this 10.5% unemployed economy?
8/17/2010 9:09:53 PM
8/17/2010 9:10:58 PM
Because what you're saying is not what the article is saying.NC State received the largest number of freshman applications in its history – more than 19,000An application is a piece of paper that someone takes time to fill out expressing the desire to go to the school. AKA RSVP REQUEST. Nowhere does it say how many people were accepted or invited.[Edited on August 17, 2010 at 9:14 PM. Reason : .]
8/17/2010 9:14:02 PM
do you think they accepted all 19,000 applicants?
8/17/2010 9:16:24 PM
I guarantee you they accepted at minimum 4550. It is undetermined how many applications were accepted. It is undetermined how many people will not attend. Who knows the ratio of accepted applications versus attended applicants from last year? Not you.[Edited on August 17, 2010 at 9:20 PM. Reason : .]
8/17/2010 9:19:41 PM
you run a pizza shopby all accounts a good onebut i am infinitely more qualified to speak on the subject of institutions of higher learningNC State typically accepts around 60% of applicantsand you have to be trolling with this:

8/17/2010 9:25:38 PM
8/17/2010 9:31:43 PM
MANY APPLICANTS APPLY TO MORE THAN ONE SCHOOL AND DO NOT ATTEND EVEN IF THEY ARE ACCEPTEDit is routine for schools to accept far more than they can accomodate because they can predict (using historical data) how many will acceptof course i wouldn't expect you to know anything about this processthe percentage of applicants accepted is reported by the university itself every year when it answers the US News questionnaireof course you have never had a need for that resource[Edited on August 17, 2010 at 9:35 PM. First link that came up in an ncsu.edu search for "Freshmen Profile"http://www2.acs.ncsu.edu/UPA/admissions/fresprof.htm2007 data is the most recent, but the trends are consistentApplied: 16,376Admitted: 9,869 (60.3%)Enrolled: 4,791 (48.5% of admitted)USN&WR put our acceptance rate at 55% for this year. Applied: 19,000Admitted: ~10,450 (55%)Enrolled: 4,550 (~43.5% of admitted)

and that should be about the end of this pizza boy talking about college shit
8/17/2010 10:31:40 PM
8/17/2010 10:37:49 PM
I love a growing freshman class. Now I have more chances to fuck some freshmen instead of going to the bar and trying to slip someone a floorie.
8/17/2010 10:39:52 PM
^^ I don't get it. I'd put Duke, Carolina, and maybe Wake over State. Even if we said Wake was #3 then who's 4 and 5? Davidson and Elon? State is number 3 or 4.
8/17/2010 11:04:15 PM
8/17/2010 11:09:52 PM
^^1) Duke2) Davidson3) Wake4) UNC5) NCSU[Edited on August 18, 2010 at 12:49 AM. Reason : as undergrad colleges obviously]
8/18/2010 12:48:36 AM
From what I've heard, Wake is definitely overrated, and... really, Davidson?
8/18/2010 12:51:42 AM
8/18/2010 12:53:40 AM
8/18/2010 12:58:57 AM
I'd put Wake, Duke and Davidson above NCSU, but they're private and can be more selective. I know NCSU has some bullshit degrees, but that liberal arts stuff at UNC is more than bullshit.
8/18/2010 1:04:16 AM
More applicants hopefully mean State let in less people like Trey this year.
8/18/2010 1:04:59 AM
ncsu engineering is whats keeping us up in the ranks ( i'm assuming )
8/18/2010 1:56:28 AM
^ the business school is in business week's top 100, but you're probably right.
