I've been seeing people write some sort of identifying info on a piece of paper along with whatever item they are selling in various classifieds recently? Where did this start, and why?

its a requirement for some postings on ebay mainly to prevent fraud and to prove that the item is in the sellers possession

i do it with my ebay stuff so people know the item is actually mine instead of some stock photo i found on google
