8/30/2010 12:22:27 AM
hahahahahahahhahahahahahahaha
8/30/2010 12:22:45 AM
not talking about people's right to do it but whether people think it has a point or if people are interested in doing it themselves.and lounge threads usually suck cause no one sees them.
8/30/2010 12:23:20 AM
i wish someone would've had the foresight to freeze hitler so he could be cloned later and placed inside a jewish woman's womb to be born 9 months later and raised as a jew
8/30/2010 12:23:44 AM
not interested in doing it myselfwho would want to clone me???but i support you turds' right to freeze yourselvesor parts thereoffrreeedome
8/30/2010 12:24:22 AM
If you're terminally ill and have the money, why not? maybe one day they'll figure out how to reanimate you.
8/30/2010 12:24:53 AM
^ that is what i was thinking. seems kinda cool.what if someone you were in love with was terminally ill but you weren't and you could freeze yourself before you died of natural causes (aka kill yourself, essentially)? if you were the terminally ill person would you?if you were the spouse/fiance that wasn't ill would you so that you could be together in the future?
8/30/2010 12:26:59 AM
By the time they figure out how to bring you back your soul is already inside a dog.
8/30/2010 12:30:33 AM
If i'm not gonna die, i'd say fuck it, i just live
8/30/2010 12:32:40 AM
8/30/2010 12:34:22 AM
not if you freeze yourself WITH the person you cared about
8/30/2010 12:35:17 AM
I think we should freeze our criminals and institute some sort of neuro-rehabilitation to give them useful skills like sewing
8/30/2010 12:39:04 AM
well you'd have to hope your house and other assets wouldnt be sold. i guess depending on how long you were frozen you could wake up to find a lot more money in your bank account.
8/30/2010 12:39:40 AM
8/30/2010 12:39:55 AM
Yeah but 150 years is a long time apart, you'll barely know each other anymore.Plus, imagine waking up to flying cars and shit. total mindfuck

http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/354/mistakes-were-made/Bob Nelson was interviewed on This American Life. He was a TV repairman that wandered into a fledgling cryogenics society meeting in the 1960's and was voted president. When their members started dying earlier than expected, he tells a grim/laughable story of embalming the first bodies on office tables and trying to bend multiple naked human bodies to fit into the one freezer coffin they had. Of course their vacuum pumps broke, the coffins leaked and it all went south, but Nelson was flying all over the country promoting cryogenics and getting gullible people to sign more contracts. He had rented a crypt in a cemetery and a news crews broke in to find bodies basically rotting in open air. It's fascinating to hear him describe this macabre ponzi scheme he ran for years.Despite condemning Bob Nelson, modern cryogenics is just as much a scam.
8/30/2010 12:40:05 AM
^^^^ well isn't that all shit you could take care of pre-freezing? get rid of all your tangible shit, put your $$$ in an account somewhere, hope things don't get fucked too bad, and then freeze.
8/30/2010 12:40:47 AM
What if you get stuck with one of those dreams that never really ends but just repeats itself. for 150 yrsand you're too frozen to commit the suisui
8/30/2010 12:42:48 AM
hahahaha. ok that would suck.but your brain wouldn't be working right? so i think it'd be ok[Edited on August 30, 2010 at 12:43 AM. Reason : .]
8/30/2010 12:43:34 AM
how in the fuck are we going to come up with a freezer that works well enough for decades
8/30/2010 12:44:41 AM
Well what if they didn't freeze you all the way and your innards started rotting and then you could smell rotting corpse for 150 yrs?that'd suck
8/30/2010 12:45:02 AM
So sad listening these people.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8o2CVasYIzQBy the way they still dump them in containers 5 at a time. Here they show them shoving the body in a cheap sleeping bag.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfbHq34A8Jc&feature=related[Edited on August 30, 2010 at 12:55 AM. that second video seems super old.and being frozen when you are old seems awfulthen when you come back you're just oldseems better to freeze when you're like 25 - 35. that way when you come back you aren't just an old person...what fun is life when you're still 70 or 80 and rickety and shit.[Edited on August 30, 2010 at 1:05 AM. the only logical purpose i could see for this, is to facilitate in long term space travel. Mostly on trips that would last for about 20+ years, without having to create a functional living habitat. It would alsohelp eliminate the psychological factors that would arise during long periods away from earth.
8/30/2010 1:05:51 AM
^ ohhhh good pointkinda like avatar.
8/30/2010 1:06:55 AM
If you elect for cryogenic freezing, be sure to use Alcor as the company to freeze you:
8/30/2010 1:09:06 AM
^^ have they frozen someone and then unfrozen someone just to see if they can even "bring them back"??? or that technology isn't there yet?[Edited on August 30, 2010 at 1:11 AM. Reason : .]

So they suspect a brain that's cracked 16 times during freezation to come back perfectly a-okay? I think they are a-aholes.

I fell on some ice and later got thawed out by some of your scientists. Your world frightens and confuses me! Sometimes the honking horns of your traffic make me want to get out of my BMW.. and run off into the hills, or wherever.. Sometimes when I get a message on my fax machine, I wonder: "Did little demons get inside and type it?" I don't know! My primitive mind can't grasp these concepts. But there is one thing I do know - when a man like my client slips and falls on a sidewalk in front of a public library, then he is entitled to no less than two million in compensatory damages, and two million in punitive damages. Thank you.

I imagine I'd be pleased with a future society able and willing to reanimate me, but I wouldn't feel comfortable using resources on preservation at this point. Perhaps after the revolution and before indefinite lifespans, should such a time exist.
8/30/2010 11:10:34 PM
^ yea. at this point? think about when it started in like the 60s. those dudes are NEVER coming back.
