I find that wedging the game down with a second cartridge is the trick to getting old games working. Unless you have that stupid top loading NES, then you have to use a piece of folded paper or something

you have to pop the cartridge in by placing it all the way in except for like 3mm of it and press down. it will be all like *CHAK* and will workrepeat as needed. don't do it on zelda though there is a battery in there that can come aloose

The method I used was to spend 8 bucks on a new 72 pin adapter.Then the next method I used was to buy an original A/V famicom that never had any issues at all
