For me, both. Though as of late (read: within the past year), it's tended strongly towards loss of appetite. Which is mostly fine by me til I realize I've gone something like 36hrs without food and make bears in the early spring look like congenial, happy fuckers.

I'll usually lose it, not eat for a while, realize I'm really hungry and then eat like, a whole pizza or something. It also tends to make me only able to stomach one type of food. One particularly bad month the only thing I could bear to eat was plain cheese sandwiches (just bread and cheese).

Most women I know eat when they get stressed . . . a lot of the men I know don't. I'm wondering if it is an evolutionary thing to direct resources towards the women since they are more critical to survival of the species than men.

GorgeWhen I'm stressed it usually has to do with having too much bullshit to do and too little time to do it. In that situation I think I'm attracted to negative things that give a quick sense of pleasure since I can't seem to find time to do the things I really enjoy doing.On the opposite end of the spectrum I might spend 8 hours on the beach, have no hunger whatsoever, and realize after the fact that I've only taken in a couple hundred calories all day.[Edited on September 30, 2010 at 11:54 AM. I don't eat or sleep. This is bad for trying to gain/maintain weight, and that it makes my level of mental efficiency and proficiency drop, making my stress worse. I used to not eat but I have conditioned myself to eat during times of stress. I have to or I will lose weight at an alarming rate.

it seems dependent on where i am...if i'm at home and food is readily available, i find that i eat more (particularly sweets)...if i'm not at home, then i almost never go out and buy food (rather, i read a book or go to the gym or something)

i am usually only stressed if I'm busy, and if i'm busy, i don't really think about eating... it's funny- I'll have a long day work, and I won't even think about food, but as soon as I'm on the drive home, I realize that I'm starving

I'm serious about overeating when I have no appetite.Like, when you're not hungry at all, and you go out with friends just cause, but once you start eating you end up grubbing out. And everybody gets to-go boxes while you've got a clean plate.Do y'all know what I'm talking about?

I tend to eat less when I'm in a relationship and more when I'm single. Mostly because relationships are time consuming and there's less time to eat when you're constantly spending time with someone. And when you're in a relationship, I'd rather spend my time with them doing other, more fun things.

^^I dunno. We go out a lot, so all that fatty restaurant food fills me up When I'm stressed I forget to eat, and end up eating about 300 calories a day..roundabouts. But since I'm unemployed (hooraaaayyyy....) I sit around the house and the fridge beckons to me all.day.long.
