anybody had their mail stolen?

I've been playing detective all day and it looks like a package delivered to me was stolen or has otherwise gone missing last Thursday

I was out of town and the package, according to the USPS, was delivered at 2:44 PM. My roommate got home at around 6:15 and saw no package.

So much for my copy of Siren: New Translation (Japanese import for the PS3) and the CD of the game's soundtrack. And a new pair of pants.

Fuck.

Setup a camera, mail yourself another package, and wait for it to get taken again. Then submit to police.

the package was insured
anybody ever file a claim on a package with the USPS?
I'm concerned that they will need proof of value - and the receipts were in the box

the game and CD was purchased in Tokyo by a family friend and mailed to my parents who shipped it to me

I had a camera I ordered on Amazon stolen off my doorstep. Fortunately insurance reimbursed me for it. The USPS was supposed to leave all packages at the leasing office at my apartment complex for that reason, but apparently it was a new guy that week or something. Talking to them to figure out what happened was a headache.

If it's a small package and you have the common apartment/condo 'pigeonhole' style mailbox where your box is mixed in with 20-100 others, I know from experience they sometimes throw it in your neighbors box by accident. If it was dropped off at your door then you're probably fucked.

yeah I've got the video stuff taken care of
quick note: video arts does not equal covert video surveillance

I'm really looking for ideas of what to put in the box

so should I have it delivered or should I just place a priority mail box on the stoop, move my car and wait?

it was a problem at my apt back in Wilmington. I think they eventually just started delivering everything at the office and you had to go pick it up.

considering all of the legal trouble I've had for less tangible offenses I have, and will show, no mercy if I catch these assholes

I want to jam them up so bad

I'd like to hit them with a civil suit too just to be a prick
the value of the contents was around $100

It'd be worth calling around to gamestops, but my bet would be that the kind of person to steal a package from a random doorstep would be the kind that wants quick cash...so I'd definitely try a few pawn shops.

It happens.

Actually, last year FedEx "delivered" a package to my home. I was home all day that day, but no package arrived. It turns out that they delivered the package to a house 3 doors down from mine, and left it between their door, and their screen door out of sight.

when I lived in the dorms at NCSU, I had a few birthday cards either go missing, or show up late after it had been opened
