Thanksgiving is almost upon us We're having our parents over to our place for Thanksgiving. I'm sure this will lead to drama but it'll be better than bouncing between houses on Thursday. What is everyone planning on doing for Thanksgiving?
11/8/2010 11:55:24 AM
I booked a flight to my parents' house in GAbut I might not be able to go if I am lucky enough to be working
11/8/2010 11:56:36 AM
Leaving Tuesday night to drive to Georgia (with my bf), then leaving Wednesday morning to drive to Florida with my parents and one brother. Meeting at other brother's house where we are staying until Saturday-ish. Thanksgiving is going to involve all my extended family that I haven't seen since I was a little kid. And they are all kind of weird. It should be interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up doing something at sister-in-law's parents' house while we're down there as well.

I will not be going home. I am really sad about that part. but going home Dec. 18th so soon enough. I will be cooking dinner with my Japanese roommate and having anyone else who is not spending it with family, spend it with us.
11/8/2010 12:03:10 PM
^ That's what I did for the past 4 years. I ended up cooking Thanksgiving dinner for 30+ expats the past two. I'm looking forward to not cooking for that many people ever again
11/8/2010 12:05:08 PM
Thanksgiving is my family's big holiday. Lots of relatives come down to Wilmington so GB and I are heading down there. His family lives in Raleigh so were gonna come back down Thursday night. I think we both have to work Wednesday and Friday though. Maybe this will be the year I ask my parents if my boyfriend and I can stay in the same room. I mean, it's their house and their rules but GB and I live together and pool resources. It's not even a scandal with the extended family or anything. Everyone knows.
11/8/2010 12:10:24 PM
i am still unsure about what we are doinghopefully most of my dad's side of the fam and then my bfs immediate fam will be getting together. that is kind of a lot of people, but oh well.and i might be cooking my first turkey!mostly i'm excited about dressing. because no matter who makes the turkey and regular stuffing, i'm making a delicious sausage/apple/almond/dried cran dressing to go with it. omnomnomnom.
11/8/2010 12:13:15 PM
Back home to High Point...My uncle, crazy ass wino aunt, and 2 little cousins should be coming down for Maryland...mom's homemade stuffing and gravy FTW
11/8/2010 12:38:39 PM
I just splurged and bought these at William Sonoma.http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/fall-forest-pie-crust-cutter/I've been wanting them for a few years now so I don't feel too bad about it Can't wait to see what my pies look like using these bad boys.
11/8/2010 1:12:07 PM
This will be my first year hosting! About 10 people coming.
11/8/2010 4:33:24 PM
It'll just be me and the husband for Thanksgiving, which I am actually quite thankful for this year (no pun intended). As much as I'd love to see my bro and his other half, I can live with a few more months away from the rest of the family. And since it'll be just two of us, I'm going to get an itty bitty hunk of turkey, some stuffing, green beans, crescent rolls, and dessert. I reeaaallly want to make an apple or pumpkin pie, but he hates all pie. Guess it'll be a chocolate cake of some sort.
11/8/2010 4:40:16 PM

^Admittedly, those are sandwich cutters, but they're still awesome.
11/8/2010 4:44:31 PM
I am super duper excited to be flying down that Monday to Florida to spend thxgiving with my bf's fam. He has to work at 8am Black Friday so we're flying back up here thxgiving day, and doing thxgiving on Wednesday instead. We might get to go to the Harry Potter theme park also! Super exciting!
11/8/2010 4:47:14 PM
I'll be spending it with my family and I'm in charge of deserts, which I like cause I can do my cakes and pie the night before and not have to be in the kitchen the day of.Last year we went to Cracker Barrel (my family all went to Disney World so I decided not to do thanksgiving), I thought it would be maybe one or two other tables..... holy moly we had to wait an hour to be sat! I couldn't believe how many people go to Cracker Barrel (Morrisville) for Thanksgiving!!

The holidays depress the hell out me, if it were up to me I'd just stay home. However I'm oblidged to go see the family so I'm waiting on my sister to decide on the official plans, she's the one with the kids and inlaws so she gets to decide when/where things are going down. Most likely it will be at her place in the mountains or back to my folks place near Raleigh.
11/8/2010 6:07:48 PM
why do they depress you?i think the holidays should depress me, but they don't. i feel sad sometimes, but mostly happy. i just love fall and the anticipation of big dinners w/ fam and stuff. and i love cooking. i dunno...i'm weird.
11/8/2010 6:09:36 PM
What a pointless holiday.
11/8/2010 6:12:38 PM
I gotta drive to GAnot looking forward to the trip
11/8/2010 6:13:15 PM
it's my birthday bitches...i'm celebrating!
11/8/2010 6:46:02 PM
I am leaving friday after class for Florida. Orlando to be exact.
11/8/2010 6:48:44 PM
I thought the Gobi would be nice this year.
11/9/2010 7:40:51 AM
I will probably go home, my parents just moved to the east coast so they are only 400 miles away. I also need to procure a TV on black Friday.
11/9/2010 8:27:47 AM
I haven't been near a store for Black Friday in 7 years. I'm kind of scared to break my streak...
11/9/2010 9:26:12 AM
11/9/2010 10:34:02 AM
My favorite holiday!
11/9/2010 10:35:25 AM
I think it's my favorite holiday too. I didn't use to think that way but it's grown on me
11/9/2010 10:54:36 AM
Fried Okra.

11/9/2010 12:35:10 PM
Does anyone's family do appetizers on Thanksgiving? We normally don't do this but since we're combining households and my mother is chronically late for everything I'm thinking it might be a good idea.
11/10/2010 10:56:03 AM
Drinking beer in Raleigh.
11/10/2010 10:58:14 AM
I really wish I didn't have to travel this yearI won't be next year though, that's for sure. We are travelling to the fiance's family (the far family, 8 hour drive each way) for both thanksgiving and christmas... we will be in Raleigh (and invite family to come this way if they want), or I will let her travel. I don't like this driving business
11/10/2010 11:07:35 AM
^yeah, driving on that Sunday after Thanksgiving is the worst. It usually take about 8 hours to go from my folks in PA, down 95 and 85 to Apex, the Sunday after Thanksgiving makes it a 12 hour drive.
11/10/2010 11:12:30 AM
I have a fear that I'll be working late Wednesday night and opening on Friday morning and not be able to do anything, except sit home alone.
11/10/2010 11:14:02 AM
we can get a turkey from Bojangles
11/10/2010 11:16:28 AM
"Alright Brandi, here is your turkey! I hope you have a great Thanksgiving and I'll be back in a few days."
11/10/2010 11:21:21 AM
Man working Black Friday sucks. When I was working at the mall I always volunteered to work Christmas Eve so I wouldn't have to do Black Friday.
11/10/2010 11:53:05 AM
^There's no way in hell I'd subject myself to that. Although I'm guessing the morning goes by a little faster bc of the busyness? (Or incredibly slowly bc of all the ass clowns looking for a deal).
11/10/2010 11:54:58 AM
Black Friday was simply horrible. Thankfully the store I worked for doesn't run any sort of special deals that Friday, so we wouldn't end up with the clusterfucks like you see at Walmart every year. BUT, basically from the moment we opened to the moment we closed it was a nonstop slam of people in the store and a bunch of assholes trying to shoplift the entire day. That's the reason I started working Christmas Eve instead. For whatever reason people are much more rational on that day
11/10/2010 11:58:34 AM
^ I always shop Christmas Eve. I think that's the day where the procrastinators come out to run in and run out with exactly what they want. No lollygagging on Christmas Eve.
11/10/2010 12:16:00 PM
The days I hate most at The Cheesecake Factory are National Cheesecake Day, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, and then Black Friday. I've never been shopping on Black Friday, but I hear it sucks.
11/10/2010 12:18:17 PM
National Cheesecake Day? Really? Some of these holidays are really stretching it.
11/10/2010 12:21:14 PM
yeah, it is half off cheesecake and all the assholes come out to take advantage of it... and us.
11/10/2010 12:23:11 PM
I'm sure Cheesecake Factory still profits from it. What's the markup on a slice of cheesecake?Though perhaps the main profit is just from brand exposure and increased name recognition.[Edited on November 10, 2010 at 12:27 PM. Reason : .]
11/10/2010 12:26:25 PM
yeah, with charging $7/slice I'm sure they are still profiting with it half off. The first year they did it for only $1.50/slice. I need to find a new job. :/
11/10/2010 12:30:34 PM
I'll be working and it sucks. The only holiday I really want to have off, too.
11/10/2010 12:34:52 PM
Thanksgiving is my favorite Holiday. All the good food and people without the hassle of gifts and empty bank accounts.
11/10/2010 12:39:33 PM
My first and only Black Friday at Best Buy(pleasant valley then) I was spit at by a customer in line. Will never work retail on Black Friday again.
