The strongest material on earth. You could stack 1,000,000 sheets on top of each other to reach a height of 1mm.If you stretched a sheet around a coffee mug, it would be strong enough to support the weight of a car.

11/18/2010 2:15:22 PM
That, I do not know.
11/18/2010 2:16:23 PM
I would like to somehow chemically bond it to my bones.

I'm an aerogel man, myself.
11/18/2010 2:48:26 PM
I think I worked with this shit but it is very brittle and you have to be very carefull with it in the lab.

NPR Science Friday did something on this a few weeks ago. Fascinating shit. Science is awesome.
11/18/2010 3:05:34 PM
Science. It works, bitches.

Make it at home! Just rub some pencil graphite somewhere and peel off layers using Scotch tape. Everyone's a scientist!
11/18/2010 3:22:06 PM
just read the wiki, yep we worked with it by providing (cutting) special silicon carbide backings.we did some other fun stuff with boron carbide too, I think? we always got cool stuff from the physics labs from Cambridge and some others I can't think of right now.
11/18/2010 3:24:11 PM
That's awesome!
11/18/2010 3:25:25 PM
Damn son, 1 atom thick? That motherfucker must have some sharp edges.
11/18/2010 3:25:49 PM
^^^^ That was actually part of the Science Friday episode.

sp3 bonded carbon is stronger. aka diamond. This is the stuff I work with every day.
11/18/2010 4:23:43 PM
I too work with diamonds.
11/18/2010 4:54:01 PM
haha, true
