... Listening to the song "God."Just wondering, what don't you believe in?Outside of being athiest, I don't believe in luck, or "destiny" or a "path" for our life. I don't believe that we have a purpose, outside of just living. I don't think we're here to accomplish something. It's up to each of us to do something with our life, and if that something, is nothing, then so be it.

I feel like if your purpose in life is to do nothing, then the rest of the world would be better off without you. And by doing nothing, I mean literally doing nothing with your life. Not having a job, not doing anything except sitting around taking up space and resources that could go to someone who gives a fuck.At least earn your way through life. If you can't do that then you don't deserve to live.

what about paraplegics? they can't earn their way through life, obviously. do they not deserve to live?

OP: It's a real game, sir.I don't believe in karma, subscribing to the nothing happens for a reason philosophy, although I would say I take a Haroldian approach to the common themes, patterns, and connections that occur in my life.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not some Ayn Rand loving anarcho-libertarian or anything. Just that people who do nothing piss me off because it's totally possibly to coast through life like that.

I can't phrase it any better than merbig. And on a barely related tangent, I've noticed in fantasy/sci-fi settings with a mixture of magic and science that magic seems to trump science every time. Magic is considered to be outside the realm of science, that the classical limitations of physics do not apply, and therefore magic can do absolutely anything without regard for conservation of mass, energy, etc. But I think it's exactly the opposite. I think that anything "magical" is just stuff that applies scientific principles that are so ahead of one's current tech level that it's impossible to explain its behavior with one's current knowledge base. I reject the notion that magic can simply ignore limits or avoid being quantified.[Edited on November 29, 2010 at 8:50 PM. Reason : grammar nazi ftl]
