So, I am going to try various methods. Usually I just don't bother but I love this hoodie so much and today was a windy day. That string would have kept the wind at least from getting to my ears and cheeks. If you have any ideas on how to achieve this goal, post them ITT.

straighten out a clothes hanger, bend one end back so that it doesn't snag, run it through the hole and out the other one. tie on your string, pull it back through.[Edited on November 29, 2010 at 3:16 PM. Reason : just like running wire in a boat's chase tube lol]
11/29/2010 3:16:12 PM
I was gonna say that^
11/29/2010 3:16:38 PM
i pull the strings out of my hoodies. i never use them and i don't like folks having a rope around my neck they can grab hold of. same reason i think neckties are retarded.
11/29/2010 3:17:53 PM
nope. best way is to tie the end onto a paperclip and use the paper clip like a needle and thread it through. I've done this numerous times and it always works.
NeuseRvrRat said what I was going to say
11/29/2010 3:18:42 PM
^^that sounds like it would work too[Edited on November 29, 2010 at 3:19 PM. Reason : adsf]

paper clip or safety pin attached to stringstick it in one end, bunching the fabric upgrab the other end through the fabric and unbunch the slack.repeat this, bunching and unbunching the clip though until done
11/29/2010 3:20:00 PM
^ this
11/29/2010 4:09:50 PM
why would anyone with access to a coat hangar use a paperclip instead?
11/29/2010 4:20:05 PM
^1. Faster2. Easier3. No chance of punching a hole in the cloth4. Doesn't destroy a hanger5. Works when threading something longer than a hanger
11/29/2010 4:23:20 PM
no actually a hangar is faster and easier, since you do much less bunching and unbunching based on the larger size...and a paperclip can punch a hole in fabric tooso basically your argument is paperclips are better because you don't destroy a hangar...]
11/29/2010 4:24:46 PM
some of y'all will argue about any damn thing
11/29/2010 4:36:13 PM
^No we won't. ^^Wrong and wrong. A hanger is not faster, because of the time to get and bend the hanger correctly. Also, you don't unbend the paper clip. It has no chance of punching a hole. Also, it's spelled 'hanger'.[Edited on November 29, 2010 at 4:37 PM. Reason : ]
11/29/2010 4:36:25 PM
just use a fishtape obviously
11/29/2010 4:38:09 PM
in my first post itt i was gonna just say "use a clothes hanger like a fishtape" but i figured hardly anyone would know what i was talking about
11/29/2010 4:40:01 PM
11/29/2010 4:40:47 PM
some stiff electrical wire works too. like 6 gauge or so.
11/29/2010 4:43:33 PM
11/29/2010 4:44:29 PM
If you tear a hole in the fabric with the coat hanger you aren't doing it right.
11/29/2010 4:45:42 PM
i was looking for a paper clip in my house just the other day and couldn't find one anywherebut i have a closet full of metal clothes hangers. thanks, textilease!

Replace the string with this:
11/29/2010 4:52:23 PM
i don't understand the pie
11/29/2010 4:53:53 PM
Also, how do you tie the string to the end of the hanger? Wouldn't you have to bend that end too? or tape it on?(too involved, when a simple fucking paper clip gets the job done fast)
11/29/2010 4:54:44 PM
mwahaha
11/29/2010 4:55:17 PM
i think it was because i don't have any paper clips
11/29/2010 4:55:52 PM
WELL HOW DO YOU CLIP YOUR PAPER!?!?!?
11/29/2010 4:57:04 PM
WELL HOW DO I REINSTALL MY HOODIE STRINGS EFFICIENTLY?
11/29/2010 4:58:28 PM
11/29/2010 5:20:50 PM
^No, I was saying that metal ones are hard to find, as in, most are plastic these days...And the other statement was not directed to you...I was saying that old houses generally already have plenty of metal hangers, and not [newer] plastic ones, and that [assuming you have paper clips, that are available everywhere, for cheap as shit, that can be used for a millions things, so why the fuck wouldn't anyone have them] not being able to find your paper clips implies that you're disorganized.(whatever)Try this:Go somewhere and do the coat hanger method. Watch as a room full of people, of all ages and backgrounds, laugh at you, saying, "Where's your paper clips or safety pins? That's how you do that...."[Edited on November 29, 2010 at 6:02 PM. I didn't read any of the responses- but I always do the same thing for this and for athletic shorts that lose the bandI attach a safety pin to the string and work it threw the loop

^QED

best thing to do is just toss the old hoodie and go buy a new onethey're cheap

I had this problem today actually. I put a safety pin through one end, closed it, and worked its way around to the other hole. No fabric tears, and took less than 5 minutes.
11/29/2010 7:23:52 PM
11/29/2010 7:28:25 PM

11/29/2010 7:28:31 PM
I think the paperclip method is harder than the wire hanger method. Its a pain in the ass reinstalling tie-strings to basketball shorts with the paper clipThat said, I'll do the paperclip because I'd rather not fuck with unbending and basically destroying a hanger [Edited on November 29, 2010 at 7:29 PM.
