It is okay for some things.

Meh for sandwiches, but something magical happens when it is toasted that makes it amazing. Also, very good in pineapple stuffing.

pretzel bread is better, especially the one used on the black forest at fox & hound.

i LOVE potato bread and potato rolls are the *BEST* for sandwiches. the bread is good, but you have to toast it and i'd rather have a different bread for sandwiches given the choice. the rolls are what you want...they make sandwiches delicious. esp bbq sandwiches. and turkey sandwiches. and all sandwiches. and make sure you buy the correct kind:[Edited on November 30, 2010 at 12:23 PM. It holds dressings and gravies well. Good for sloppy sandwiches.
11/30/2010 12:25:31 PM
toasting both is definitely key (bread and rolls, i also like potato hot dog buns)
11/30/2010 12:26:05 PM
i prefer to use two chicken breasts as my bun
11/30/2010 12:26:48 PM

11/30/2010 12:30:37 PM
I enjoy them, though I have no idea how or why a potato becomes a roll.

I made a thread similar to this one time and someone replied "Its awesome the first time you have it, and then you keep eating it and it gets pretty old. You forget to buy it the next couple times you're at the store then a couple months later you discover it again and its awesome.Thats pretty accurateI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.[Edited on November 30, 2010 at 2:09 PM. I've got a potato bread recipe for the bread machine that I'm interested to buy. you start with real potatoes, not the powdered potatoes the rolls at the store are made with. I'm interested to see if it affects the moisture of result. I find store-bought potato bread to be a bit dry.
11/30/2010 4:11:06 PM
I grew a mighty crop of powdered potatoes one summer.
11/30/2010 4:12:26 PM
I only buy potato bread unless I really want plain white or multigrain for something special.Potato bread is the fucking best, period....except for REAL potato bread, not the commercialized stuff we all buy. Real potato bread is not the bee's knees.

Fuck you bitches, Arnold's is where it's at.
11/30/2010 4:41:40 PM
does arnold's make rolls or just the loaf?i have had arnold's loaf before. it was fine. i am partial to the rolls though and that is def martin's.
11/30/2010 4:48:09 PM
Yeah, but I prefer loaf for the variety of uses.I get Martin's when I want to make burgers or turkey sandwiches or something.
11/30/2010 4:49:39 PM
Arnold's makes killer rye, as well as my go-to wheat (Dutch Country FTW).As far as potato, the few times I've tried it, Martin's wins.
11/30/2010 4:49:47 PM
^ i agree. i usually buy arnold's wheat bread for my "go to" wheatbut i prefer martin's potato.^^ and yea, if you need it for toast and other uses, i see how the rolls are not always practical [Edited on November 30, 2010 at 4:55 PM. Reason : .]

sugar is added as yeast starter food... then they produce amylases to break the starch down into sugar.
