12/1/2010 10:12:05 PM
I like them both.White lights look good if you have a really fancy house on the outside...Colored lights look good if you have a regular looking house on the outside...I like both on trees it just depends on the theme you do.
12/1/2010 10:12:52 PM
I prefer coloreds myself.
12/1/2010 10:12:54 PM
I concur.
12/1/2010 10:13:10 PM
If you think colored lights are trashy than your obviously a yuppie. Congratulations.Bought time to send out the "no colored lights" fliers for this year.
12/1/2010 10:16:20 PM
both
12/1/2010 10:17:19 PM
It depends on the house type, the amount of lights, and how well they are placed. Its harder to screw up with white lights, but personally I'm a fan of the more colorful option.
12/1/2010 10:19:34 PM
Outside on the house, I prefer white... on the tree, though, I can go either way (I would always do both so I could chose based on occasion/mood)
12/1/2010 10:19:41 PM
I call them "African-American lights".
12/1/2010 10:20:07 PM

12/1/2010 10:23:50 PM

12/1/2010 10:25:18 PM
Lol @ this thread. I use both
12/1/2010 10:26:55 PM
i only do white, because i dig the more colonial/victorian-style christmas vibeother than our white-lit tree, we only do single white candles in each windowno giant blow-ups out front or lights on the houseas i told nothing22 the other night, i only go for 3 types of christmas music as well1) classical- 2) victorian (though i know it was written earlier... but i associate it with dickens) -3) drunken early-mid 20th century-post 60s jazz is okaybut anything past mid 60s pop is RIGHT OUTNOPENOPE[Edited on December 1, 2010 at 10:29 PM. i like white lights, generally.BUT i like colored lights if they are the large bulb old school kind (the fire hazard kind i suppose)the one thing i don't really like are icicle lights. they annoy me for some unknown reason.
12/1/2010 10:36:36 PM
well, at some point, giant colored lights will be every bit as nostalgic as bing crosbycause it'll be 2021 and the 1970s will be as cool and classic as mad men is nowbtw for dweedle, i've just finished a santa wuf cartoon, and i plan on doing one for the bowl gamebut good gravy, i'm glad to be done with this season
12/1/2010 10:39:40 PM

12/1/2010 11:12:33 PM
i think trashiness comes from HOW you hang your lights outsidei hate some half-ass light jobslike having one random section that blinksor not wrapping them well around the bushes/treesno matter what you choose, colored or white, you gotta show effort. i hate when people throw a strand across a tree branch and think their work is done.[Edited on December 1, 2010 at 11:14 PM. 12/2/2010 1:46:46 AM
I think white looks better.Colored look kind of trashy on a tree to me. Outside colored lights can look good but it's better when the color is planned out instead of just random colors on a strand of lights.I don't really hate on people who do it, I just think a tree looks better with mostly white lights and red decorations, with a bit of gold or silver.
12/2/2010 1:55:33 AM
Colored on the tree.Whites outside.Like a true clansman.

On the tree we have a few strands that are just red, green, and white. Outside anything goes. I started putting them up this week. We have a prefab spiral tree that is all white and I covered the bushes next to it in white icicle lights (which looks really good, covers the bushes well). The dogwood by the street has multi-colored LED lights in it. I still have a few strands of multi-colored C9 bulbs to put up, probably on the porch.
12/2/2010 8:20:35 AM
On the tree? Has to be colored. C7 Twinkle bulbs preferred.[Edited on December 2, 2010 at 8:27 AM. Reason : .]
12/2/2010 8:23:12 AM
C7 on a tree is pretty baller, might have to change it up this year...
12/2/2010 8:29:10 AM
White lights definitely look classier and just better overall. If you're trying to decorate and impress, white lights are better. I personally prefer white lights.Colored lights are fun and can be done tastefully. But they can also be overdone...and I think this happens a lot. But they're also more "fun." However, the really big colored lights are just ridiculous and should be banned completely.
