which do you prefer?in high school, i was pencil-only. never used pens, and was almost afraid of using pens (probably a commitment phobia thing). i had a mechanical pencil i really liked, and when it got discontinued i even called the manufacturer to order an extra boxshortly after that i somehow became pen only, and have never looked back.

pilot G2

Why would anyone be pencil only unless they had an engineer/architecture type job where they had to drawings with a lot of corrections that needed erasing??
12/6/2010 10:23:44 AM
^^ I'm chewing on one of those right now.
12/6/2010 10:24:04 AM
mechanical pencils 4 life
12/6/2010 10:24:35 AM
I still like a mechanical pencil, but for the most part, pen!especially these:oh and the Pilot G2 as mentioned above[Edited on December 6, 2010 at 10:25 AM. Reason : oh yes]
12/6/2010 10:24:41 AM
I prefer a standard BIC pen. More often than not, I have one stuck behind my ear
12/6/2010 10:29:01 AM
Pilot G2 or Zebra M-402 I also use spoons AND forks!

In IB, the students are required to take their final exams in black ink. In my class they have to do all work that is to be submitted in black ink. If they make a mistake, they put 1 X through it and continue working.
12/6/2010 10:35:30 AM
The only time I use a pencil is if I am woodworking
12/6/2010 10:35:36 AM
BOTH.Print, not cursive.All caps. Always.
12/6/2010 10:37:17 AM
Why would you need a pencil for that?Oh....THAT kind of woodworking
12/6/2010 10:37:30 AM
i was referring to my penis
12/6/2010 10:42:52 AM
i swear this thread was made not too long ago b/c i remember posting about my writing tools.in school i was 100% pen all the time. Now my job has me at 80% Pencil or colored pencil and 20% Pen. Pencil - Bic mechanicalPen - Zebra Sarasa. The best gel rollerball pen ever.
12/6/2010 10:45:24 AM
I only use a pen because I don't make mistakespencils are for dummies
12/6/2010 10:46:54 AM
I write better with pencils but I am a snob for both. I've been known to ninja both pens and pencils from folks if they write well. Haha.
12/6/2010 11:00:39 AM
as an accountant...pencils are key
12/6/2010 11:01:23 AM
I used to use pencils a lot more, and then I'd go back through my legal pads and find my notes all smudged to shit.I normally stick with pens now...the G2's are nice...I have a uniball that I bought (and then couldn't use) for the bar exam that's been my mainstay for a few months:

Crossword puzzles: Red Zebra F-301.Everything else: Blue or black Uniball Vision Needle.
12/6/2010 11:47:22 AM
I too was a pencil kid in high school. Now I use whatever is in reach.
12/6/2010 11:48:15 AM

Pencils are definitely for architects and commitment phobes.I always have at least four pens on me at all times: a black ink pen, a red ink pen, a pink ink pen and a fine point black sharpie. The black is for general communications. The red is for proofreading. And the pink is for 2nd-round proofreading. Additionally, I keep a fine point sharpie on me for times when I want to be very obnoxious in written communications.
12/6/2010 1:42:42 PM
i used to be a FIEND for correcting my math homework in red ink. i couldn't possibly bring myself to use a blue or black ink pen

Red is much more legible. And it screams "EPIC FAILURE/PLZ TO FIX" ... very important when an error means the difference between an A and a B ... or between a revenue-generating communication and a potential cease-and-desist letter.
12/6/2010 1:47:44 PM
I, too prefer a pencil because at my engineering job, the IT guys get mad when I draw in autocad with a pen
12/6/2010 4:01:09 PM
Pilot G2's are awesome pens. That is only pen I've ever used where I actually ran it out of ink and wanted to buy a refill.
12/6/2010 4:05:09 PM
12/6/2010 4:07:36 PM
pilot G2 0.38mmONLY.
12/6/2010 4:10:25 PM
Pens all the way...when I do use a pencil, I rarely ever use mechanical pencils. I prefer the regular wooden ones.
12/6/2010 5:31:18 PM
I, too, love the Pilot G2.
12/6/2010 5:33:42 PM
Pens only, and only this pen. Best ever, except that they're more prone to exploding after a while than most. But the writing is unsurpassed.
12/6/2010 5:37:58 PM
Depends, but usually pen. They gave me this really nice pen at work.... and though it does make me feel like a douchebaggy corporate tool when I write with it, it really does feel good in my hand, it's heavy, and it writes well. I use this most of the time:But, sigh, there is some work where it just doesn't make sense to use a pen. So for some of the drafting, schematics, prototype concept drawings, etc.... I use a pencil.
12/6/2010 5:49:52 PM
computer son, fuck some pen(cil)/paper bullshit
12/6/2010 7:11:15 PM
Another +1 for Pilot G2, only pens I buy. .07mm preferred, will settle for .05mm. Black, not blue.
12/6/2010 7:25:33 PM
12/6/2010 7:27:44 PM
pluma
12/6/2010 7:30:09 PM
how do y'all write with gel pens? they never work for me. maybe somehow they're prejudiced against lefties..
12/6/2010 7:32:47 PM
back in high school and early college, i used to be #2 wooden pencil onlybut after a while pencil just falls off the pages in the sketchbookso now it's almost exclusively: on the rare occasions that i still do "proper" ink work (i have a wacom, so the pen has been somewhat outmoded), i use: i usually tear the dickens out of the tips of those things well before the ink runs dry because i press pretty fucking hard

remember when these came out? they used to be the bomb (as we said back then) and we'd trade for them also,[image]http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:1Ymxr5FdBQ_xdM:http://www.retrojunk.com/img/art-images/yikkespencils.jpg&t=1[/image]

12/6/2010 8:31:39 PM
12/6/2010 8:34:38 PM
yeah pilot g2 or pilot frixion are the ONLY pens i use...I mean i like fancy $100-$500 pens but i'll lose them and my junk is large enough that i don't need to compensate.
