i hate it.I can tell when it's coming. you don't hear from them for a few months, then bam! They call me a month ahead of time "hey man lets hang out". Grab some beers, talk the shit, watch football. 2 weeks later - "yo man im moving, need some help".
12/13/2010 12:20:10 PM
I love it actually. I think I just enjoy physical labor though.
12/13/2010 12:21:14 PM
this is news to me
12/13/2010 12:21:17 PM
"awesome, man. just after that i'm going to need some help moving these, uh,...trash bags. i'll help you, then you'll help me. "
12/13/2010 12:23:00 PM
As long as they only need help moving things that are already packed.I hate getting to the place only to find out that there is still shit not in a box or beds/dressers not taken apart.
12/13/2010 12:23:12 PM
this problem is amplified if you have a truck or other large vehicle.
12/13/2010 12:25:16 PM
I don't mind it at all as long as they aren't someone who is only looking for help and never offering their own. This kind of stuff usually evens itself out over time between friends.[Edited on December 13, 2010 at 12:52 PM. Reason : .]

i help them move willingly provided they give me a decent bit notice and not pull a "hey man i'm moving tomorrow, you're gonna help out because i helped you that time a long time ago right?"but i agree that if they don't get their shit in boxes i'm not helping them pack it there.if my stuff isn't in a box when they're over its cause i'll get it later after i get room and time to figure out if i'm gonna toss it

12/13/2010 1:39:31 PM
Try owning a truck... everytime someone is moving, I'm one of the first people called
12/13/2010 1:41:44 PM
12/13/2010 1:43:38 PM
^^ truth. when I had my Tacoma I got called just about every weekend to move something
12/13/2010 1:46:17 PM
or you called other people to come help you move shit!!1
12/13/2010 1:47:24 PM
i hate calling friends that have trucks cause i know they have to get bugged all the damn time about it. so i will either stick to renting a truck or hiring movers in the future
12/13/2010 1:49:02 PM
i own a jeep and a corvette. in the clear there.
12/13/2010 1:51:34 PM
If someone is down to pay in either texa$ or beer, I don't mind lending my truck to the cause.
12/13/2010 1:51:59 PM
on the plus side, having moved so many things, I know how to do it very efficiently, so it gets done quicker. And if they are willing to pay for gas and maybe buy me a meal or something, then i have no problem doing it (I'm not a small dude, so moving stuff isn't too big of a hassle, other than the time it takes)
12/13/2010 1:52:22 PM
My roommate and I helped a friend move over the summer. We only helped her move out b/c she was moving to Charlotte, so we just loaded the truck. Her parents were so grateful for our help that they gave us $40 each and $30 for gas. And had breakfast food waiting for us.I wouldn't have asked for anything but it was definitely appreciated
12/13/2010 1:53:47 PM
haha the one thing I don't like anymore is people getting me beer for the move... I'll take it when I'm done, but I can't enjoy a good beer while I move anymore (I used to be able to, but I'm getting old and the ol' body can't multitask like that anymore )
12/13/2010 1:55:28 PM
I'm moving next monthI got a case of Schlitz for anyone who lends a hand

i like helping people stay put, it's a lot easier than helping people move. you just go over to their house and make sure they do not start to load shit into a truck.also, this:

Well I can help you move.

friends don't help friends move. that's what craigslist is for.srsly. dont fuck up your friendships.
12/13/2010 6:52:03 PM
Asking friends to help you move is unacceptable after age 30. It starts getting iffy around age 25, but at 30 I draw the line.
12/13/2010 6:54:43 PM
because weirdos from craigs list should know where you live
12/13/2010 6:56:31 PM
I just recently helped a friend move from a 3rd story apartment to another 3rd story apartment. I'm pretty sure that was the closest to death I've ever been
12/13/2010 7:12:38 PM
^^ craigslist has other sections besides "personals" and "erotic services". check it out.
