It's closing.I just found out tonight that the Farmhouse is closing for good on Sunday. Rumor is that it is going to be torn down to make a larger dirt pile connecting to the lot next to it. I know all of you hipsters don't go there very often, but Saturday should be worth your while if you are looking for a cheap place to get drunk.

wait...this isn't Pam's farmhouse that makes that banging breakfast is it?
12/15/2010 11:34:30 PM
Nah, Pizza and Plates
12/15/2010 11:35:55 PM
guess that means i'm going to the last "concert" there tomorrow.
12/15/2010 11:36:44 PM
There's another Farmhouse? Maybe I've been going to the wrong one.
12/15/2010 11:37:36 PM
Yo Farmhouse I'm really happy for you and imma let you finish, but Sylvia's closing was one of the worst closings of all time.[Edited on December 16, 2010 at 12:05 AM. Reason : f]

Good. This place sucked. Always had awful, terrible service here.
12/15/2010 11:41:37 PM
Enjoyed it when it first opened in the old location. 50 cent PBR was awesome when you were broke!
12/15/2010 11:42:50 PM
poor hillsborough street. Just not enough business generated there. Wtf NC State students? Start dining out more! Lay off the ramen and easy mac
12/16/2010 12:15:54 AM
^^ya, that was their money days, should have never moved^more like oversaturation of the shitty pizza market[Edited on December 16, 2010 at 12:20 AM. Reason : .]

Farmhouse is a great place for college budgets. Not sure why it didn't catch on. Oh wait, cuz there were always sketchy homeless people in there getting drunk and making everyone uncomfortable. I fuckin hated going in there and getting chatted up for change from a guy sitting at a bar smoking the bartender's cigarettes.
12/16/2010 12:24:33 AM
There was a reason that weekend lines stretch down the sidewalk from PB's and ended just before farmhouse. The new location sucked ass, was dirty, was run by nasty hipsters and there were much better food choices up and down Hillsborough St.
12/16/2010 12:53:34 AM
Yo Farmhouse I'm really happy for you and imma let you finish, but Pam's Farmhouse is one of the best farmhouses of all time.

I liked Farmhouseit had character
12/16/2010 2:45:03 AM
Never liked farmhouse. Always had sketchy people and was generally a giant sausage fest
12/16/2010 3:05:14 AM
they need to put a gas station there
12/16/2010 7:03:31 AM
I hadn't been there since a crack head jumped me there
12/16/2010 7:11:13 AM
aside from Hike Night, I hadn't been there since the management shift a year or two ago
12/16/2010 7:18:09 AM
I take that back- I did trivia there a couple times after the "incident"I enjoyed the train wreck plate or whatever it was, and the bartenders were always cool... but there were definitely some sketchballs that came in there, and after the 'incident,' I couldn't help but look over my shoulder every time I was there, and that is not a fun way to spend your time.

Their food was decent, never went there to drink though. Still, sucks to lose a Hillsborough street business, especially one that had been there for several years. Also unfortunate that what was probably once a nice house (and one of the few remaining houses on that part of Hillsborough from its early residential development) is to be torn down, but pretty sure it was too heavily altered/too far gone to have any renovation value.Plus it's in the way of a development that they've been talking about for at least 6 or 7 years that might get built one day, maybe.
12/16/2010 9:19:49 AM
Welcome this is a Farmhouse
12/16/2010 9:53:19 AM
If I'm thinking right, this will result in 2 or 3 empty lots right next to each other. Someone needs to capitalize and build a legit bar/club to keep some of the college crowd on hillsborough instead of downtown. The drunkards will then fund all the surrounding late night eateries.....This does, however, sound like to much fun for the NCSU area
12/16/2010 5:59:35 PM
Wow, this place was still around? I remembered when it first opened and thinking it wasn't going to last past a year or two.^ Those empty lots are there because they're getting ready to build a big mixed use building there.[Edited on December 16, 2010 at 6:13 PM. Reason : a]

^ I dunno. It seems like there are enough customers to support 4 blocks of business on a 10 block road. I guess you could pretty successfully argue that good businesses can attract more customers, but a single business isn't going to make a huge impact on it's own.
12/16/2010 6:21:30 PM
farmhouse was not near enough to anything to walk to it and had shitty parking if you wanted to drive.
12/16/2010 7:10:38 PM
and who wants to drive to a place you can get an entire fucking tray of pbr for 5 bucks?
12/16/2010 7:13:00 PM
What was that place called before FarmhouseThey used to sell beer in plastic cupsAnd not in a cool way like that underground place in Chapel Hill with the 50 cent beersShit was trashy

Fair enough, but the kinds of establishments that run successfully in renovated houses (boutiques, high-end salons, etc.) don't want to be between date rapes centers and the second-worst music venue in town, either.
12/16/2010 10:03:50 PM
Volume 11 being the worst?
12/16/2010 10:06:05 PM
Whoa whoa whoa I came in here to stand up for the fine people of The Farmhouse (some of the ppl that work there are friends of mine and this is terrible news if true) but you leave volume 11 out of this you curmudgeon
12/17/2010 3:47:40 AM

haha yeah, just take one of everything from your grilling section of your fridge, add chili, cheese, onions, slaw, fries, mustard, and catsup and your good... mmmmmmm everything.....

I, too, am a farmhouse regular.Originally, I intended to defend all the good aspects of Farmhouse, but then realized that the reasons why I like going there are the precise reasons why it isn't overly successful:I can bring in my own food and cook it; I pay between 50cents and 2.50 for a beer; it isn't crowded so I get served quickly; and I feel as if I am at a buddies home. That isn't to say that farmhouse isn't successful, it is. Mark makes good money off the place, but not enough to warrant the time he puts into it and the toll it takes on his family.

But what in that area is worth visiting
12/17/2010 1:45:41 PM
yeah, i would park in the dan allen deck if I couldn't get parking behind it... that is less than I usually have to walk to get to saucer or anywhere on glenwood or fayetteville st
12/17/2010 1:45:54 PM
It's a block from Nelson Hall. it's near Cup A Joe, the Brewery, Readers Corner, Packbackers, etc., etc.you fatass ramen noodle eating motherfuckers need to walk out of your dorms and take a look around your local area sometime. somewhere other than Fountain or Talley.
12/17/2010 1:50:42 PM
I'd imagine that no one in this thread has lived in a dorm in 5+ yearsAnd all of those places sound like an awesome way to spend a Saturday night
