So we have a cat that's getting pretty bad...eating plants, tearing up the carpet, etc. Looking for a suggestion on a Nerf gun to shoot it when it starts doing bad things. I currently have an air powered gun, but with the required pump time the cat has time to see that I have the gun and bolts.I'm looking at this gun right now but not sure it has the required accuracy. The cat is relatively small and agile so it needs to be a fast and accurate gun.

lol, cat huntingI love it

Put a laser sight on it to distract her?
1/16/2011 1:03:50 PM
Haha, I like it. Might have to just tape our cat toy laser pointer to whatever gun we buy and get new batteries but its a step in the right direction

get a water gun. cats hate getting hit with water, but there's no chance of it hurting them.
1/16/2011 1:08:02 PM
Thought about that, but then we'd have to deal with getting things wet and possibly cleaning up the water. Also not sure of the range or requirement for air pumping.Still a good suggestion, we'll take a look

nerf stampedeit's like the vulcan but faster and more comfortable

Embed a syringe in it with a healthy injection of pentobarbital.

We had similar problems. I went to PETSMART and bought a SSSCAT. This is a motion dector device... when your cat gets near it, your cat will get blasted by a quick burst of compressed air that they HATE. It has pretty good range ~2-3 feet. Plus, it will detect movement about 2-3 feet away as well. The price is 20-30 bucks... but once you buy the main unit, you will only need to buy refill cans which are much cheaper... It has an on/off switch. I haven't had mine turned on in a year b/c my cat knows what it is and is scared of it. I can place it anywhere in the house and she won't go near it, for fear of being blasted. I would highly recommend it. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2751025I originally got it b/c my cat jumped up on the TV stand at night while we slept. I would find footprints and cat hair up there in the morning... Not anymore!EDIT: This mainly works if you want to keep the cat away from something... off counters, plants, etc...[Edited on January 16, 2011 at 2:08 PM. Reason : yeah]

Damn, I need that shit!
1/16/2011 2:11:05 PM
Just use a bb gun.
1/16/2011 2:13:57 PM
^ I agree, they should definitely keep you under control with a bb gun.
1/16/2011 2:14:44 PM
i would recommend a .22 with a subsonic round
1/16/2011 2:27:26 PM
That will definitely shut ggmon up son!
1/16/2011 2:28:51 PM
using a laser to entertain your cat is patented. send me a PM and i'll tell you where to mail the royalty check
1/16/2011 2:32:26 PM
If you are still feeling the Nerf gun, get the Maverick N-Strike 6 dart capacity. Heh after you train that cat you can still have fun shooting things in the house.
1/16/2011 2:36:45 PM
I use a squirt bottle with water. I moved the nozzle out so I'd say the range on it is a good 15 feet...enough to shoot across the entire room. It's a laser beam of water until about the last foot. $1 at the dollar store!
1/16/2011 2:38:39 PM
That's an interesting concept too. I like the automated device more though, except for the part where it actually costs money.
1/16/2011 2:40:08 PM
squirt gun... spray bottle works great for us (haha and works for our dog too)

I have experience using this particular model against cats. Unfortunately, the sound of it powering up is usually enough to scare them off, so there's no fun involved. On the upside, they will hide in terror at its very sight.WHen you can surprise them and get shots off, though - priceless.[Edited on January 16, 2011 at 3:18 PM. Reason : .]

There are a few breeds of cat that actually like to get in the shower when their owner turns it on. I forget which ones.Wait... you're that butch lesbian whore. [Edited on January 16, 2011 at 3:26 PM. Reason : T]

The Vulcan is loud, and makes noise even before it fires. Your cat would definetly be able to respond to it.The Stampede is cool but is probably the same motor as the vulcan. The Raider is fast and accurate and manual pumped so it shoots as soon as it makes noise.
1/16/2011 5:35:56 PM
A real rifle will end your problem once and for all.
1/16/2011 5:50:41 PM
i'll come over and shoot it for you if you're too much of a pussy
1/16/2011 5:51:39 PM
The only gun here is the Barricade RV-10 with a motorized 10 dart revolving barrel and whistler darts so I guess ill get thatshit yeah never mind they have all sorts of guns[Edited on January 16, 2011 at 6:57 PM. Reason : Yay]
1/16/2011 6:54:31 PM
I certainly hope everyone saying to shoot the cat is ok with coming home to their own pet having been shot by some douchebag who thinks its funny to kill people's pets. Perhaps some of you will get to experience that someday.
1/16/2011 6:55:57 PM
Going with the barricade, no priming required means a fast draw and shoot that should get the cat by surprise
1/16/2011 7:06:04 PM
Don't even have to get off the couch
1/16/2011 7:08:53 PM
Nerf guns are getting insane dude. This stuff is over the top really. I guess COD and stuff has these things getting popular?[Edited on January 16, 2011 at 7:10 PM. Reason : t]

I used to have a little spray bottle for the cat when he was a kitten. But it didn't work that well. He'd just squint and keep on going. It became a habit to the point that any time he was about to get into something he knew would get him in trouble, he'd start squinting, even years after being a kitten and years after having ever used a water bottle. I just yell at him when he starts to squint. You could also try this method:

As fast as cats are, I'd either go for a water gun or an "air-soft" gun. BUT cats are sneaky assholes, so if they get mad at you, they will piss on anything they can find that is soft. So this includes, but is not limited to: beds, couches, laundry on the floor, friends' baggage. I'd go with water, and if you can do it in such a way that the cat does not know you are there, the better.
1/16/2011 7:18:01 PM
the maverick would work. Just cock it and leave it until you need it...then just pull the trigger.
1/16/2011 7:49:43 PM
A cat, you say? I recommend:
1/16/2011 7:50:33 PM
^ SKEW MUH.
1/16/2011 7:52:45 PM
Turns out the barricade had a motor that spins upwhen you turn it on, but I can still get a shot off real fast. Might just have to go buy a maverick
1/16/2011 8:46:14 PM
^ I think we can still wait and see if this works first >_>
1/16/2011 8:48:09 PM
just hit it with the nerf mace
1/16/2011 8:49:56 PM
i was thinking air soft as well, but nerf would be more fun bc the used ammo would be easier to pick up
1/16/2011 8:50:10 PM
that water balloon gif is interestingthe water burst makes up most of the force, not the initial contact
1/16/2011 8:54:07 PM
The OPs gun, modded can fire 500rpm
1/16/2011 9:08:52 PM
Definitely this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXC7qZ_iWgM&feature=related
1/16/2011 9:11:12 PM
the dNerf Deploy-6 has worked well on my dog
1/22/2011 10:14:48 PM
you can buy a remote controlled shock collar at petsmart. highly effective and easy to aim
1/22/2011 11:21:55 PM
That's nowhere near as fun as a nerf gun
1/22/2011 11:25:46 PM
That's nowhere near as fun as a grenade(I hate cats )
1/22/2011 11:27:11 PM
GRENADES.
1/22/2011 11:32:16 PM
dammit where are our updates from the front?!
