Ugh...really don't feel like doing my taxes AND a 10 page paper today.I keep forgetting about my taxes until I see something like this, or have someone mention it on facebook or something.

Being a full time student that is otherwise unemployed has its advantages.
4/17/2011 1:19:27 PM
i did it once, but didn't like the result so i've ignored it since then
4/17/2011 1:26:56 PM
^lolz
4/17/2011 1:30:39 PM
well I guess it's done. Now I just have to print it up at work tomorrow and take them to the post office at lunch. Is it too early on a sunday to start drinking?
4/17/2011 3:12:56 PM
it's never too early to drink on a sunday... sometimes it's too late though.mimosas and bloody mary's were invented to drink on sunday morning.
4/17/2011 3:41:03 PM
I broke out my tax bracket senior year of college and exceeded permissible tax free income based on being a full-time student. Don't let this happen to you. I wasn't familiar that this was even possible.Unless you're in this category the 1040EZ is more of just an exercise in remembering your personally identifiable information. If you go to a VITA agency, expect your identity to be stolen. Why else would anyone volunteer to file your taxes for you?(and even if you're an unemployed fulltime student, if you're not a dependent you need to file your return for FAFSA purposes)[Edited on April 17, 2011 at 3:51 PM. oh, don't worry, it's just stategrad100 speaking out of his ass again
4/17/2011 5:08:33 PM
You're right. I stand corrected. There's a zero percent chance your identity will be stolen when providing your entire financial history and personal information to a stranger doing volunteer work.
4/17/2011 5:14:43 PM
...entire financial history?have you ever even done taxes before?and what's to stop someone at say... H&R Block from stealing your identity, as well? You know, besides that whole bit on your tax forms that asks you if someone did the paperwork for youand the fact that they have to be certified to do itand that it'd be the easiest thing for anyone with a fraction of a braincell to determine that your identity had been stolen by the person who prepared your taxesdo you want me to keep going or are you still a fucking moron
4/17/2011 5:24:06 PM
Yes I am aware of the PTIN (Preparer Tax Identification Number) code that is required on the form if you're filing on behalf of someone else.Providing the social security number, name, and everything else required on the 1040 is equivalent to handing over your entire financial history.Secondly, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) isn't very well regulated, and many community organizers will bring volunteers out without proper credentials to assist the client and then feed it to their boss for review and submission. There are many eyes that end up on the form before actually transmitting it to the IRS.Thirdly, identity theft rings don't work by rogue individuals, there are usually paid collection points where people will simply collect the info and then submit it so the bogus account can be filed on a victim's behalf somewhere else geographically to mask the point of breaching the info.Your best bet is to find an already established firm that is doing a volunteer day rather than an actual advertised VITA event. Anyone basically ASKING to do your taxes (as some do) probably has a few bad apples. Most of the people who need help from VITA usually don't have anything worth stealing anyway, but you will get profiled as a young college kid without much of a credit history asking for free assistance from a less than certified organization. You went from zero to 60 in 2.5 on that one.
4/17/2011 5:31:13 PM
haha, i still haven't even done my 2009 taxes, much less my 2010 taxes.I bought 2009 tax software to do it, but then my Windows laptop died, leaving me only with my netbook, which runs Linux and has no optical drive. I tried using a friend's computer to do them, but it crashed when I was about 95% done, and I lost everything. I haven't gone back to do it, yet...I'll probably just wait until I buy a new computer. The feds owe me money for both years, so I'm OK...the only bad thing about continuing to put it off is the opportunity cost of not being able to invest that money...but realistically, I'm as far into the stock market as I care to be, and I'd just put that money into a MMA or short-term bond fund, so it's not like I'd be making any significant amount of money on it.

^^ this plight that's sweeping americapoor people having their identities stolen by tax preparation volunteersexposed by a certified dumbass on TWW[Edited on April 17, 2011 at 5:57 PM. Reason : .]
4/17/2011 5:56:03 PM
Again you're right. It's obviously such a non-issue that the IRS was absolutely remiss in setting up a hotline dedicated to this. http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc101.html
4/17/2011 6:02:44 PM
I love it when people who don't know what they're talking about find links on the internet that they think validate their idiocy and then proceed to use them in their campaign.Seriously.You are fucking stupid.
4/17/2011 6:13:24 PM
You're right. You should go file your taxes at a VITA location. They're waiting....My gf is the CPA. I am just a dumbass.
4/17/2011 6:18:29 PM
so your girlfriend steals identities?
4/17/2011 6:21:33 PM
in a certified fashion
4/17/2011 6:21:55 PM
EVEN BETTERYour girlfriend is a CPA?That's like me trying to give medical advice because I dated a nurse one time. Wrap that shit up and elevate it, bro.please, seriously, just stop. you are in over your head and you are struggling for breath. your arguement is feeble, it is supported by hearsay, and you have no real application or knowledge of the subject yourself.as I said initially:
4/17/2011 6:24:45 PM
4/17/2011 6:28:10 PM
game
4/17/2011 6:31:59 PM
No I've prepared taxes for people before and have done VITA work, so I've seen this type of stuff firsthand, but given the misspellings and the lack of knowledge about how much I actually know about the subject, there isn't really a reason for me to respond with anything other than a shrug.
4/17/2011 6:33:23 PM
so you've stolen people's identities?
4/17/2011 6:34:27 PM
lol
4/17/2011 6:35:37 PM
OH DEAR IN MY RUSH TO POINT OUT THAT HE HAD NO REAL SUBSTANCE TO HIS POSITION, I MISSPELLED THE WORD ARGUMENTTHAT SOMEHOW PROVES stategrad100 ISN'T AN IDIOT
4/17/2011 6:48:39 PM
Dude, stategrad100 has become a real bitch since he started posting again.
4/17/2011 6:57:29 PM
Do you need help filing your taxes or something? Because if this is your way of asking, you're not being very nice about it.
4/17/2011 6:59:08 PM
4/17/2011 7:21:31 PM
the shit that's really scary about having your identity stolen is ending up on the TSA no-fly list after they get control of your electronic identity and post a few seditious things onlineIt's easier to fix your credit report than it is to get off the lifetime TSA no-fly listOtherwise you'll always be known as the "double glover" because they'll be searching you deep.
4/17/2011 7:27:24 PM
4/17/2011 7:54:30 PM
No it's proving the opposite of YOUR point!Ok to make it easierIdentity theft is BVITA center is AI am saying A causes BYou're saying B does not cause A.The only conclusion you can gain from those two conditions is not A does not cause BSo logically, not going to VITA does not cause identity theft. Two completely separate statements unable to be linked by syllogism or any other argu(e)ment. The extra e is for my friends.[Edited on April 17, 2011 at 7:59 PM. 4/17/2011 7:55:09 PM
You are saying A causes B, which is incorrect, which is why people are calling you an idiot.
4/17/2011 8:08:17 PM
I guess if it weren't for blind faith in the system there would be no system. But I see the existence of VITA, a government sponsored charity of assisting citizens in performing their civic obligations to be symptomatic of the sorry state of our population. A tax code twice the length of the Bible, and an incompetent public so disenfranchised from the government that they must be assisted in performing basic civic duty. The only incentive to volunteer at VITA is the potential of impropriety in exploiting the public good - in this case the readily available identities of the clients - and selling them. You all are too altruistic and trusting. One day you'll get fucked if you trust VITA-flavored organizations. I've been there and seen it.[Edited on April 17, 2011 at 8:14 PM. Reason : ]

they dont want me doin my taxes sonthey dont wanna cut that check
4/17/2011 8:15:24 PM
I work with VITA centers. The last thing VITA centers want is a low income identity theft issue. They are a pain in the ass. You're being an idiot.
4/17/2011 8:16:40 PM
still procrastinating... maybe ill start tomorrow...
4/17/2011 11:11:58 PM
Often in college towns, it's upper level or masters accounting students working with an organizing accounting professor. I had thought about volunteering in the past, but why the fuck would I do that? Volunteer to do something that I have been paid for in the past? Fuck that, and besides 60 hours a week plus being a FT student again doesn't lend my time to fucking around w/ mental midgets' taxes.Mine ended up better than expected. I finished an hour ago.
4/17/2011 11:17:37 PM

I did mine last night...I have to pay $75 cause my church nursery job doesn't withold from me.I think I'm going to quit this job at some point this year...I would really appreciate a refund.
4/18/2011 8:54:38 AM
^ but if youre getting a refund, doesn't that mean the government has been keeping your money interest free for some period of time
