What’s the purpose of the hole on the front edge of that one knife?

I defended you an a different thread - but starting to regret that. How about this, start an official "knife" thread as your outlet - so that the rest of TWW doesn't have to waste bandwidth on your life sucking hobby.

Those Doucette blades are pretty...but for one thing: the carbon fiber ruins it for me. I'd much prefer nickel.

Also, if you (zxappeal) ever want to order a knife from Randy I wouldn't let that carbon fiber worry you. He will generally do whatever you want with the materials as long as it isn't idiotic or totally against his design philosophy. If you requested mokume, titanium or damascus steel for the bolsters he would easily be able to do that. He's made both of these knives with damascus bolsters and damascus blades in the past. I love damascus, but it does add to the price significantly. The same is true for mokume. Damascus has to be acid etched to bring out the pattern and over time the etch will wear down, making the pattern dull with use. It can be re-etched, but it's something to consider. Titanium shouldn't add much to the price, but I hate bead blasted finishes and that's generally what you're going to get with titanium bolsters. Bead blasted bolsters will easily display scratches. If you actually plan to carry the knife, the setup I've gone with is one of the best. When I have had him build me a knife I've always had him jewel and anodize the titanitum liners and anodize the pocket clip. I also ALWAYS have the blade satin finished. I dislike bead blasted blades for a large number of reasons. Some people like them for whatever reason, but I do not.My preference is either damascus bolsters or carbon fiber bolsters and for weight and price reasons, I have always chosen carbon fiber. I would gladly own any of the knives in these photos though, don't get me wrong. I'm quite open minded where materials are concerned. That last one has silver twill G-10 bolsters, which will wear more like carbon fiber (ie - they're scratch resistant and don't display the scratches so obviously) but do have the silver look you seemed to want. You might take that into consideration if you like the look of them.[Edited on April 24, 2011 at 3:22 PM. Reason : t]

^^ This argument has been discussed time and time again. Value judgments are a two way street. ^ Depends on the range of the target and what you're doing. In general I agree, but I prefer to have both. When it comes to custom made objects though, knives are where my interest lies.[Edited on April 24, 2011 at 3:19 PM. Reason : t]
