by News Corp, who bought it for $580MM in 2008. They were trying to get at least $100MM. I didnt realize people were still on Myspace.

Ha, and Facebook was recently valued at 70 billion

ummm myspace sucksthis thread did not deliver[euler's number / 10]
6/29/2011 2:49:53 PM
Ouch. I hate newscorp and I still feel a little bad for that kind of lost money. Eh well, I'm sure everyone involved will get a nice bonus out of the deal. It's a real shame. I think the market could use a facebook competitor that's not evil.
6/29/2011 2:54:01 PM
^ Umm it's called Tdub- hello???? Welcome to 2011!
6/29/2011 2:55:07 PM
so... what made myspace suck and facebook win? all the lame bands on myspace, or not being initially for college students only, or something else?
6/29/2011 2:56:06 PM
the question is how much would tdub sell for. honestly, in your opinion, how much?
6/29/2011 2:57:38 PM
You know what the biggest evil is out there?Linked INthat shit is SO overvalued and SO worthless and SO evil if it ever actually took offbecause their whole business model is collecting statistics on who's googling you...scaryit's a direct threat to my hobby of anonymously googling people

6/29/2011 3:19:37 PM
LOL I forgot I had myspace until I got 2 emails this week saying people were requesting to be my frannn.I just deleted those emails tho, so no site traffic for myspace from this girl
6/29/2011 3:20:24 PM
^^ miggedy million
6/29/2011 3:22:10 PM
Facebook has started to display some monopolistic tendencies. The chat/messaging system has been broken for months and there's no support for it. Now, perhaps that's par for the course with a free service, but I wouldn't say facebook has any real competitors in the market pressuring them to innovate or provide support.
6/29/2011 3:22:42 PM
Myspace still has some value to the music industry as an easy and free way for unsigned acts to get their music out and heard.
6/29/2011 3:22:55 PM
only poor people don't know what MM is

Speaking of metrics on dollarsa single unit of paper currency in America weighs one gram, whether it's a single or a twenty or a hundred, etc.TRY IT!All you need is a metric scale and paper tender.

6/29/2011 4:21:46 PM
^ yeah that novelty wore off because now the profit is being driven by a cleaned-up easy access look to get what you need and be done with itIf you want to think about it, facebook was just a forced myspace template standard that caught on by catering to the college communities and eventually drove out the myspace marketshare
6/29/2011 4:26:38 PM
aww, I liked the idea of people have horribly unclean profile pages with kittens or guitars in the background...
6/29/2011 4:28:54 PM
My favorites were the ones with pink backgrounds highlighting a fat goth chick wearing all black frowning at the camera and wearing too much eyeliner with an indie rock song 3 years old playing on loop to highlight the feel
6/29/2011 4:29:51 PM
It would piss me off when my slow ass computer took years to load that glitter shit...it was automatic grounds for defriending
6/29/2011 4:31:49 PM
facebook is *WAY* more than slightly overvalued. I wouldn't touch that junk past the IPO day with a 10-foot pole. They're one good privacy suit or data breach from their stock getting down to penny stock status.
6/29/2011 4:37:17 PM
^Yah, when your valuation is 45x revenues you might be more than slightly overvalued. I was being a little sarcastic there.
6/29/2011 5:03:15 PM
^ it's not always about revenues though - it's also about projected revenues from advertisers and the value of the data that they've already minedI don't think that facebook is overvalued as much as data mining in social media itself is a huge bubbleIf Zuckerberg wants to know that my facebook statuses and comments usually focus on farting and calling people names then he is welcome to that data for years to comeHis secret biometric recognition project to score a defense contract is where most of his company's valuation is - mostly because you signed a contract with him that he owns your data (When you got your account)

Myspace became the forum for the homeless at public library computer stations.
6/29/2011 10:44:20 PM
^^^^^True. Some people went overboard. What pisses me off about facebook though, is the below girl doesn't seem to have a page. I know her name and what town she lives in, but I couldn't find her. There was more to her than her boobies. She liked to talk about soccer and so did the other people on her friends list.[Edited on June 29, 2011 at 10:46 PM. Reason : .]

local bands and shit need to get off myspace anyway and invest in an actual website. No one wants to go through a cluttered myspace page and it puts the visitor in the mindset that you arent that serious about your careerhopefully this will force artists to either create actual websites or invest in putting tracks on itunesno purpose for myspace.[Edited on June 29, 2011 at 10:47 PM.
