When is Olive Garden fast food? More casual dining?I think cookout is above Wendy's.I'd even put it on point with chic-fil-a, but cheaper.

Thats college nostalgia talking. Leave it up to ncstate students and cookout and bojangles would both be at the highest level.

Subway in level 2 invalidates your list.

seriously, why do we let Earl continue to post? we suspended all of his other aliases including mambagrl... why is this one ok?
7/20/2011 9:57:24 AM
pizza hut dominos papa johhns and quiznos added to level 2. Those places on the higher level are really still almost fast food quality except you sit down, order nice drinks and pay a tip.
7/20/2011 9:57:54 AM
I think you're confusing fast food with chain. if so:level 5: PF Chang'sThe Melting PotBonefishRuth's ChrisCheesecake Factory

Theres a reason why theres only 4 levels. I don't consider those chains to be fast food because there is a clear quality leap and they aren't the type of place people would frequent for lunch and pay about the same prices as chipotle or jasons.
7/20/2011 10:02:12 AM
Doesn't matter.Chilis and Macaroni grill aren't fast food either, but they are chains (and so are the "level 5" places I listed)

Fast food is the term given to food that can be prepared and served very quickly. While any meal with low preparation time can be considered to be fast food, typically the term refers to food sold in a restaurant or store with preheated or precooked ingredients, and served to the customer in a packaged form for take-out/take-away. The term "fast food" was recognized in a dictionary by Merriam–Webster in 1951.Outlets may be stands or kiosks, which may provide no shelter or seating,[1] or fast food restaurants (also known as quick service restaurants). Franchise operations which are part of restaurant chains have standardized foodstuffs shipped to each restaurant from central locations.[2]The capital requirements involved in opening up a non-franchised fast food restaurant are relatively low. Restaurants with much higher sit-in ratios, where customers tend to sit and have their orders brought to them in a seemingly more upscale atmosphere, may be known in some areas as fast casual restaurants.

Thats a good way to define fast food but can a non fast food place not have fast food quality? I would argue there is a bigger gap in the quality between levels 0 and 1 and levels 1 and 2 then the is between levels 2 and 3. The places listed on level 4 have drive thru lanes and will bring your food out to your car
7/20/2011 10:14:15 AM
Food quality doesn't matter. There are some really great and expensive places that are still fast food. They usually aren't chains but they are still fast food. Think pizza by the slice, BBQ, Cheesesteak sandwiches, etc.

Would Neomonde be considered fast food in this study? What about Waraji?

Fast food should be limited to places that you get a tray. If you get silverware and a plate, that is a sit down restaurant. Add smithfields BBQ to #2
