i went to catholic school growing up and we had a "penmanship class" where we would dedicate time to learning the proper way to write cursive. now.....i can't even try if i wanted to.
8/12/2011 12:21:23 PM
i agree.but im actually happy i learned it because i write in it a lot (well like a print/cursive hybrid-its quicker)
8/12/2011 12:21:29 PM
I get very cursive when i stub my toe
8/12/2011 12:22:20 PM

what about signing your name? [Edited on August 12, 2011 at 12:24 PM. Reason : this is under the broad assumption that most people sign in cursive ]

I'm sad by the number of high school grads that can't even sign their name in cursive. What are they teaching kids these days!
8/12/2011 12:40:03 PM
^ hopefully how to be useful.
8/12/2011 12:44:34 PM

My 16 year old brother can't read my very legible cursive writing because he never learned how to write in cursive.
8/12/2011 3:23:50 PM

8/12/2011 10:22:50 PM
anyone else go to take standardized tests and have to sign a release and copy it in cursive before the test? PURE HELL.
8/12/2011 10:23:53 PM
^ I never understood that section of the test. I think it was just to piss you off before your test taking even began.

8/12/2011 11:38:34 PM

the problem with cursive is, is that while there is a standard format, almost no one who has learned it actually uses it. cursive is a very person-specific written language, as most people customize it to their liking; often by hybrid methods. this leads to difficulty in understanding other's writings. on the other hand, when people use normal type, aside from bad handwriting, they generally follow the standard forms, with much less customization, as compared to cursive/hybrid. that is why those in technical fields never use cursive. it is always normal type and often in small caps or all caps. it is neat, legible, and greatly reduces the chances of misreading.
8/13/2011 1:58:37 PM
i abide by the hybrid usagebut i never use cursive capital letters
8/13/2011 2:02:35 PM
