Does anyone have pictures of the west side of Riddick before it was demolished? I was just curious to see what it looked like, and this is all I can find.

I have some photos of these stands before and during the demolition. I will, however, have to find where the heck they are buried on my hard drive...(Oh, BTW, that picture you have is after they already demolished the southernmost third of the stands. Imagine them extending much farther toward the railroad tracks--that concrete box at the topm just to the left of the smokestack in that picture, was the announcers' booth and used to be in the middle.)[Edited on September 19, 2011 at 1:07 PM. ^^ really? Damn, I didn't even know they were gone. When I first got to State that was the weirdest/coolest thing about campus.Making me miss Raleigh a bit... Thanks guys, awesome pictures. I was just wondering what the underside of it looked like (read they had dorms and whatnot at one point, was wondering how that worked), and the backside.I'm a sucker for shit like this. http://goodnightraleigh.com is a good site for this kinda thing, love going there
9/19/2011 3:05:41 PM
The dorm rooms under there were long gone by the time I got to NCSU, and I started in '98. I think that was in the 70's or maybe 80's--doubt you're going to find anyone here who remembers those. Though some of us are old. I remember the underside containing offices and storage space for Facilities Operations, temp studios for College of Design, and evidently some old decomissioned ITD/OIT/Computing Center equipment (never saw it but heard of it). Also, the Morris Building was connected to it. It was demolished at the same time the stands were.[Edited on September 19, 2011 at 3:37 PM. Reason : d]

9/19/2011 3:38:10 PM
pretty sure they were torn down in the fall of '05
9/19/2011 3:47:17 PM
^^True. They did a *fantastic* job on the Park Shops renovation too. That building was old, decrepit, and looked like ass inside pre-renovation, and now it's just beautiful.
9/19/2011 3:52:09 PM
^yeah parks shops is very trendy looking.

After living in Syme for a year on the Riddick Stadium side, I gotta say it would have been cool as hell to live there when they still played in Riddick. My dad told me all the stories he heard about students watching games from their windows and stuff (dad was there '72-'76, lucky bastard)

you realize carter stadium opened in 1966, right?

Yeah they did a good job with Withers too. I was glad to see they kept the dark wood paneled entryway and the original staircase with its scroll handrail, but really modernized the rest of the building (and made it all look like it fits together).

^Ha, wow. Bringing back memories. I remember CH101L up there waaaaaaaaay back in my very first semester.I'll have to take a quick tour through main campus here shortly to see what all has changed in the last 5 years.[Edited on September 20, 2011 at 11:09 AM. Reason : -]

^^Maybe I'll do my next bout of cycling around campus this weekend. Is parking a problem on Saturdays? When I first started school parking was nearly 100% wide open on the weekends. As the years went on I saw restrictions on more and more lots - I wouldn't be surprised to learn that permits are still enforced on the weekends now.If so I'll just cycle in from a distance.Edit:http://www2.acs.ncsu.edu/trans/parking/enforcement/index.htmlGuess weekends are still open then.[Edited on September 20, 2011 at 1:18 PM. ^^^ It's been 7 years for me. I can't even imagine what campus looks like now. I REALLY need to take a tour to see all the changes. I probably won't recognize it. ^^ Right! They got it made now. I also had CH101 lab in Withers with no A/C....absolute HELL. But I must admit, I lived in Tucker right after they got A/C.
