1) I don't check my work email outside of work2) I don't come in at the traditional 8:00 AM, so best of luck with that.

I love waking up at 7AM to find an invite to a 9AM conference call with my Boss's Boss. Usually it comes with notes stating "Be prepared to discuss blah blah blah blah blah"

i still haven't even figured out how to check my work email from home but i am almost never needed in meetings so its not a big deal

I work from 8-4. That is when I work. If I come in early or stay late its because I have nothing better to do. Outside of 8-4 I try not to think about work much less actually do work.

I'm never without my phone, so when I see a work email pop up, I look, and depending on the subject line, open, then decide if it can wait or not. But I do not like surprises at work, so checking makes me feel better. Also, I don't feel bad when I'm on the internet for 20 minutes during work hours, when I will probably work 20 minutes in the evening.
