how come it sometimes starts with a C?
12/20/2011 2:35:30 PM
The first letter makes a hard guttural sound deep in the throat that some English speaking folk can't handle, so its just pronounced with an H instead of the hard "ch"...makes kind of a throat-clearing soundIts just like chutzpah if you've heard other yiddish words.NOTE: the first letter is the one on the right, we read right to left.[Edited on December 20, 2011 at 2:39 PM. I learned something!

I think it needs to be explained just how Jewish of a game dreidle really is.Before any player spins, each person puts 1 coin/piece of chocolate/whatever you're playing with into the pot. Only one player spins at a time. There are 4 possible outcomes:1) Nothing happens2) Win entire pot3) Win half the pot4) Put one piece into the potFor those of you who never took statistics, that's a 50% chance of winning and only a 25% chance of losing, and you win much bigger than you can lose. The expected outcome (average gain/loss) for each spin is to win 25% of what's available.

You know Asians don't have souls. There is no way they could be Jewish.

My Israeli coworker, who never celebrated Chanukah while she was in Israel, is now celebrating it after moving here to the US this year. Funny thing is she also has a Christmas tree up in her apartment...
