I think it's because chicks are often posing for pictures with big, sometimes even exaggerated toothy grins, and the threshold at which it becomes creepy looking (unless you have excessive TGR, like you mention) is pretty high.Conversely, a dude can pretty easily look like:or ...so we probably tend to avoid posing in pictures, purposefully posing with a megagrin.

Yikes! A similar turn off for me is when the person has tiny teeth. Like it looks like they never lost their baby teeth. Ick.
