Meh....The red cross has sullied their reputation with me, by repeating the same song and dance after a tragedy. They lead people to believe their blood/donatiins will be used for THAT specific emergency, when in fact its stockpiled for their own vampirish needs.Dont get me wrong...i still donate. I just dont feel the need to donate after a specific emergency.
12/22/2011 10:11:47 AM
So you just wanted to talk shit about the red crosses donation seeking practices?
12/22/2011 10:14:38 AM
Sounds to me like they want to replenish regional supplies that were used in this accident, not that the supplies would go directly to Transylvania County.
12/22/2011 10:15:29 AM
It always annoys me after I donate some says, "you know some places will pay you for your blood."
12/22/2011 10:17:03 AM
I got paid to donate plasma
12/22/2011 10:19:04 AM
Fucking vampire.Go ahead....give your blood willingly. BAAAAAHHHHHHH!
12/22/2011 10:19:58 AM
Apparently they've developed a new donation system for bone marrow that doesn't require that big ass needle. It's supposed to be like donating blood now.
12/22/2011 10:27:00 AM
12/22/2011 10:30:49 AM
i came in here to make a joke about blood being needed in Transylvania and also this picture:
12/22/2011 10:31:42 AM
What'd we have, like a gallon of type-O negative before this accident?
12/22/2011 12:25:03 PM
What, was everyone in the wreck Type-O or something?
12/22/2011 2:07:46 PM
no type O is the universal donor and is always in short supply[Edited on December 22, 2011 at 2:10 PM. Reason : .]
12/22/2011 2:09:40 PM
Why don't them greedy basterts get some of their own blood type???
12/22/2011 2:11:38 PM
well as far as I know the type O is stocked as much as possible at select red cross stations. When there is a shortage in a region, they will send extra supplies and more blood types ASAP, but in the mean time any nearby supplies of type O can be used for any blood type, so that is what they use when they run out of a certain blood type.
12/22/2011 2:15:28 PM
Sounds like the Red Cross managers suck at managing their stock.
12/22/2011 2:17:18 PM
sounds like they are a non profit tasked with collecting, testing, storing, organizing, and supplying healthy and uncontaminated blood to the entire US not to mention all of the other aid they offer within our borders and even foreign allies.
12/22/2011 2:19:09 PM
And yet they can't even keep inventory.
12/22/2011 2:23:07 PM
how easy would an inventory be? the supplies change everyday, so all they have is an estimate, and Type O is very rare, so it is not a surprise that they are low/out, they usually stockpile type O as much as possible.
12/22/2011 2:27:05 PM
Well, I'm A+ so....
12/22/2011 2:28:19 PM
12/22/2011 2:35:10 PM
^^^I don't know. Good managers find consistent sources and learn how to estimate demand to ensure their stock is adequate.^exactly. [Edited on December 22, 2011 at 2:36 PM. Reason : .]
12/22/2011 2:36:36 PM
^ I think it is a matter of priority. If you have ever worked in a nonprofit, then you know that resources are scarce, there are not a lot of paid positions, and a lot is relied upon from volunteers. The first priority is to have clean donations, so most of their resources are geared toward accomplishing that goal. Then the can worry about there being a allotted amount in each region, but holidays are usually months where they run short of donors and stockpiles. granted they could keep a tight inventory (if they were a private corporation maybe) if they were not spread so thin
12/22/2011 2:38:53 PM
So the managers suck a stocking AND staffing? What a failure.
12/22/2011 2:39:59 PM
thank you for the enlightening information, maybe you should go fix the problem that the red cross can't seem to fix.
12/22/2011 2:42:32 PM
All I'm saying is that a good manager would hire the proper staff and know how to stock inventory.
12/22/2011 2:43:09 PM
is it bad i don't know what blood type i am?
12/22/2011 2:43:34 PM
I figured out my blood type by being a first-time donor a couple of months agoA positive
12/22/2011 2:43:54 PM
^^^well then why don't you become their 'adequate manager'?^^I don't think many people do know their blood type, but it is important info to have with you[Edited on December 22, 2011 at 2:44 PM. Reason : .]
12/22/2011 2:44:36 PM
I never said I would be a good manager there.
12/22/2011 2:46:20 PM
and there we go, it is a job no one actually wants ... so they are doing the best they can for a non profit
12/22/2011 2:47:08 PM
did I say a positiveI meant k positive
12/22/2011 2:47:35 PM
I wouldn't say no one wants it, that's a stretch coming from what I said.
12/22/2011 2:48:24 PM
12/22/2011 2:48:30 PM
well it is not a highly sought after position because there is a limited amount of raises or promotions to be had, many people view it as a nowhere type job. It is high stress and a meager pay considering what the are in charge of.[Edited on December 22, 2011 at 2:51 PM. Reason : ^you can find out by donating your delicious blood to them for free]
12/22/2011 2:50:07 PM
But surely they can find competent people. I mean, how hard is it to look over little bags of blood?
12/22/2011 2:50:47 PM
except the units of inventory they keep are considered a biohazard. The blood has to be stored and shipped according to strict protocols, that is the priority, accurate inventory to the pint is not.
12/22/2011 2:52:56 PM
And I'm sure the government has all of that listed nicely for them. It's not like those protocols are constantly changing.
12/22/2011 2:55:57 PM
Looks like I should find a way to help out tomorrow...
12/22/2011 3:05:24 PM
12/22/2011 3:12:10 PM
Yeah, it sucks for me. I can give to everyone but can only accept from others of my kind. Made an appointment for Saturday morning at 11:45am. [Edited on December 22, 2011 at 3:38 PM. Reason : Hope this helps some...]

just wanted to add that when somebody needs blood in an emergency, they probably don't have time to type everybody before something bad happens. that's why the use O on everybody first. i don't think the problem is mismanaged inventory, but i'm just guessing.

12/22/2011 10:09:53 PM
Nah, I landed that fish and she finally gave up so I threw her in the live well for safe keeping.

O neg is the emergency release blood. If a trauma patient rolls in to the ER bleeding out, there is no time to wait 30 minutes for the blood bank to type and cross match blood for the patient. The ER uses the emergency release blood to transfuse the patient while the blood bank is prepping type specific blood for the patient.fyi one unit of packed red blood cells is about 350mlyou can lose 1500ml from a femur or pelvic fractureone multi-casualty wreck can severely deplete a region's emergency release stockpile.[Edited on December 23, 2011 at 1:56 AM.
