Just joined the NCSU family and am moving to Raleigh on the 28th. I was wondering if it would be faster to take 20 > 95 > 40 or 85 > 40.Thanks.

I drive between Raleigh and the Atlanta area pretty frequently...definitely take 85 to 40. It'll be about a 6 hour drive, depending on how fast/slow you drive.[Edited on December 25, 2011 at 10:18 AM. Reason : .]

Thanks guys.I'll probably set my cruise for 80. Are there any stretches that are notorious for issuing tickets? Any small town cops that will pull people over for 75 in a 70?

I've never really seen that many cops on that stretch, at least no more than you'd expect to see anywhere else. There is a spot or two along 85 in SC (I believe either the Greenville or Spartanburg area) where the speed limit drops down to 60 mph, and I've seen a few people that were pulled through there.

just came from greenville, SC area. Up 85/40. Slow the fuck down. State troopers are out.

On 85 around Greensboro and Burlington. The speed limit changes and they sit at the marker waiting for you. So if you're driving next to a bunch of trucks and can't see any signs on the sides, then be wary. Also, if you're coming through on a more traffic-heavy day, I like to take NC-49/NC-64...goes from the Charlotte 485 beltline right to the Raleigh 440 beltline

Gaston county (the first county in nc coming from atl) is rediculous for troopers and county police. Set cruise for 9 over in that stretch.

just be on the lookout for this nutjob and you should be alright
