Fell short in 2011, determined to get there this year with the help of my kindle fire 1) The Paris Wife - Paula McLain
12/28/2011 12:57:13 PM
I'm just too slow of a reader to read a book a week. My personal challenge is to read 24 new books this year. I'll start with Game of Thrones.
12/28/2011 1:00:22 PM
I'm not finished with the 2011 challenge yet...i'm determined to make it to 60 books by saturday
12/28/2011 1:00:31 PM
More power to you
12/28/2011 1:13:16 PM
I need to read more but I have trouble staying interested in a book. Maybe I just need better books
12/28/2011 1:15:39 PM
^^^ Only 49 to go!
12/28/2011 1:36:50 PM
how can you already start the count? its not 2012 yet also, my goal is to read more than last year.good luck everyone!
12/28/2011 1:39:08 PM
^^i'm reading 60 RIGHT NOW!
12/28/2011 1:40:32 PM

12/28/2011 1:44:58 PM
I'm in. My first book will be Heartstone: A Matthew Shardlake Tudor Mystery - C. J. Sansom. I've read all the others in the series back in 2010, so I'm excited to read this one.
12/28/2011 1:51:55 PM
I read probably 20 books a week, but most of them are graphic novels. Does that count?
12/28/2011 2:13:49 PM
then you have to read 1040 graphic novels in a year
12/28/2011 2:15:43 PM
^ hehe. shouldn't be a problem Might need to make it an even 1000
12/28/2011 2:18:16 PM
12/28/2011 4:26:39 PM
How you people can spend that much time reading is beyond me
12/28/2011 4:30:00 PM
I tend to read longer books, so I'm going to shoot for 24 as well, and up that if I'm consistently reading books less than 500 pages.
12/28/2011 4:30:39 PM
^^ after work, i typically go to the gym, eat dinner, start reading around 7, drink loads of coffee, stop reading around midnight or 1 am, watch an hour or so of tv, and then hit the hay. i prefer reading to tv, but i'm by no means anti-tv. i definitely prefer reading to going out, but i'm also 30 and basically married.
12/28/2011 7:14:51 PM
^^^if people spent as much time reading as they did on facebook, tww, etc they could probably read multiple books in a week.[Edited on December 28, 2011 at 7:20 PM. Reason : i am not excluded in this]
12/28/2011 7:20:04 PM
I'm thinking of canceling my cable and internet. I'll definitely be reading a lot more if I do.
12/28/2011 7:51:57 PM
i said it last year and i guess i'll say it again... i wish i could do this. i didn't even make my goal of 12 books in 12 months.
12/28/2011 8:23:20 PM
12/29/2011 12:40:50 PM

12/29/2011 1:30:37 PM

^^my mom was really big into http://www.paperbackswap.com awhile ago. She acted like it was Christmas everytime she went to the mailbox and received a new book. Then she received a Kindle Shipping was very easy because you just wrap the book in paper and then stop by the PO to send off, never more than a few dollars.

Last night at 12:00 midnight, I was sitting on the can, reading the last few pages of Salem's Lot.I spent years n years not reading anything but technical stuff and the newspaper, I decided last year that I was going to get back to reading fun stuff. I've got a stack ten deep on my nightstand waiting to read. It's def preferable to most of TV.

1/3/2012 9:01:49 AM
Have a book from Christmas to return to B&N and should buy one to start the year. Going to start the Hunger Games series. I think my tactic for reading this year is to be indiscriminate in what I read. So, mix up the nonfiction with fiction and mix books like Game of Thrones with brain candy.
1/3/2012 9:23:11 AM
I'm in, though I'll try for the 24 as well and hopefully read more.
1/3/2012 10:09:42 AM
Do you guys realize 24 isn't half of 52? I am going to shoot for 26. That really doesn't seem like it would be hard to do at all but sadly I am pretty sure I didn't read that many in 2011 so I don't want to jump in too deep.
1/3/2012 10:15:36 AM
DOH
1/3/2012 11:48:22 AM
Yeah I think I'm going to aim for 24, two a month, we'll see, maybe I'll fit in some more
1/3/2012 11:55:15 AM
SchndlrsFist
1/3/2012 11:59:00 AM
Yes, I know 24 is not half of 52, but my goal is 2 books a month this year. Maybe next year I can do one per week and reach 52. Unless I start grad school. Ughhhh
1/3/2012 12:27:39 PM
Time for another round of failure. Maybe I can break 20 this year:(1) Me Talk Pretty One Day - David Sedaris
