I don't care what anyone says, I still love RotJ. The singing/dancing thing is stupid but the rest of the movie is awesome.

In Return of the Jedi, there is a scene set in the palace of an infamous crime lord named Jabba the Hutt. Slave girls dance as a band of aliens plays. One of the girls catches Jabba's eye, but when he draws her near, she resists. He drops her into a pit where a giant monster eats her.

In the 1997 re-release, George Lucas added horrible CGI aliens to the band and changed the song they played. That's what this thread is about.

Jedi has always been my favorite of the series.

But for the life of me, I just can't understand why anyone, even George Lucas, would look at the entire "Jabba's Palace" scene and say "You know what's missing? An upbeat musical number." It clashes with everything around it; its juxtaposition with the drab environment is oddly comparative to its puzzling inclusion as a non-sequitur amongst what is otherwise a terrific story being told. Thus, not only does it LOOK out of place, but as far as what is going on, it FEELS out of place.


That said, as bad as it is, it doesn't ruin the movie for me. I just wish I knew what Lucas was thinking.

This, and essentially everything else ^^ said. Every time that scene comes on, the flow of the movie is killed for me. I'm taken aback.

My only thought is that I'm glad it happens early on in the film so there is time to regain all the lost momentum.
