if you don't particularly need them? i've always had near perfect eyesight so have pretty much ignored the concept of glasses entirely, but it occurred to me the other day that i could get some cheapo reading glasses at the dollar store and perhaps gain additional advantages over you flawed-eyeds. but will prolonged use end up harming my naturally superior eyesight??[Edited on January 29, 2012 at 12:36 PM. Reason : eyes, how do they work?]

yea i don't think that is a good idea. if you don't need them then you'll just be straining your eyes and making them worse I thinkbut i am not a professional in eyeballs

it is bad. your eyesight will adjust so it returns to a normal vision

While I cannot directly answer your question, I'll give you this little tidbit. For the first time in years, I went to my ophthalmologist and was told that my eyesight had actually improved a little bit from my last exam. The doctor asked me if I read a lot without my glasses on. I told him that I always read at night before bed without my glasses. He said that was good and one of the best things that I could do because it strengthens your eyes, which can become a little "lazy" if you're always wearing your glasses.

If you know the physics of eyes, all eyes do is receive and interpret waves of light. It doesn't matter if the line of sight is "blurry" or "clear", it'll pass through the eye unharmed. At most it will do is overwork your brain, for it has to do more work to interpret the words that it's viewing if the words you see are blurry. I would assume you would wear glasses that would IMPROVE the clarity of reading, therefore it will be both good for your eyes and good for your mentality.Of course there are always downsides, and that would be what grimx said: it might weaken your natural vision when you take them off after reading for hours.[Edited on January 29, 2012 at 1:34 PM. the eyes dont just receive waves of light, there are muscles that cause the lens to focus

http://www.agingeye.net/visionbasics/visionmyths.phpIn short, probably not permanently.. but they can't be great for you either. Why would you want to wear reading glasses if you don't need them? The only advantage you'll be gaining is hipster status and a decreased field of vision.

how is wearing glasses going to make your vision better when you're not wearing glasses?and wearing reading glasses when you don't need them probably isn't going to hinder or help your ability to read without glasses...what it will probably do, is hinder your ability to see clearly at distances without glasses
