I guess this is what happens when you pay teachers crap. You end up with some weirdos that don't mind the crap pay since it gives them access to kids.

True but if it paid a better wage hopefully you'd have enough normal Joes applying as to choke out the weirdo applicants lol.

The only clear solution in this case is to castrate all male teachers, much like the 'men' who watched over the harems of ancient kings so as not to be distracted by temptation.

It's not about sex, its about power.

the LAUSD is one of the worst school systems in the nation.i used to do private investigating for insurance claims and LAUSD was one of our clients - we used to work on cases for them - mostly stress claims. i would read some of the statements that the teachers would provide regarding the environment and it was seriously scary stuff my favorite case was the teacher who got workers' comp for a stress claim - well LAUSD wanted us to follow him to see what he was doing. found out 2 things - one is that he's really OCD and would go to the same places at the same times every day and the second thing we learned is that the guy was a pimp and was running a prostitution ring [Edited on February 7, 2012 at 12:57 PM. the solution isn't to pay the current crop of teachers morebecause let's be honest, today's teachers (especially elementary school) are not bright at all. they barely graduated college in a major that is mostly common sensethe solution is to fire ALL the teachers, allocate more money for teacher salaries, then hire the smart people that apply (possibly including some of the previous crop that actually have brains)

^ basically that.although some of them don't need to be fired to begin with...and most of the others don't need to be fired--you'd could just start hiring better qualified people and paying them more, and the rest would fade away on their own over a period of time.although i don't think the unions would ever allow that.

I mainly just wanted to point out that elementary school teachers are pretty fucking dumb

need to follow the Finnish modeltheir teachers are in the same income bracket and profession perception as doctors and lawyers.you must get a masters to teach and only 1 out of 10 that apply for this masters programs are accepted.

That would require significant changes to the public school model beyond simply the hiring model. It would require massive additions to taxation, funding coming strictly from the national level to eliminate disparities in funding between say rural alabama and orange county, total restructuring of the university systems, different certification, etc.Seems like a lot of trouble for something not worth keeping around.

you should read up on the history of their education model or better yet...watch the episode of Dan Rather Reporting: they were a BRAVE country with what they took on as they truly implemented a no child left behind program.here is a docu on their education system: part 1[Edited on February 7, 2012 at 2:27 PM.
