Which one to get? I have a feeling this will lead to much amusement when with friends that have poor decision making skills.

most cops use this one:http://www.intox.com/p-556-alco-sensor-fst.aspx

I got this one:http://www.bactrack.com/breathalyzer/s75-overview.htmlMainly as a deterrent to driving home when I am close to .08. It has been a pretty useful tool for that purpose. However, I, too, wanted to use it as a fun tool to track who is the most fucked up at any given moment. The problem with that is you have to wait at least 10-20 minutes after your last drink to get an accurate reading. Otherwise it will just say something ridiculous. I imagine that is the case with most breathalyzers in the 100 or lower price range though.
2/21/2012 12:41:14 PM
I used to have one. Honestly, it just led my friends to drink more to see who could get the most fucked up...
2/21/2012 12:43:16 PM
Bactrack has one on groupon right now.The boy is one of those irresponsible people. I feel like I should be nice and hand him one of these while I remind him DUI = divorce

2/21/2012 1:08:58 PM
Gee, I'd hate to see what you'd do if you caught him cheating
2/21/2012 1:13:23 PM
I got one from goodwill for three bucks, but the same one is on Amazon. I'll post a link if I can remember to look at what brand it is.

If my wife ever gets caught speeding, we'll probably have a trial separation, at the very least.
2/21/2012 1:17:46 PM
As long as he doesn't come home with a STD or DUI I don't care what happens. But when friends will buy you drinks to thank you for being the designated driver, you need new, smarter friends.
2/21/2012 1:18:02 PM
When your wife threatens divorce because you make a mistake that can happen to anyone, you need a new, smarter wife.
2/21/2012 1:20:14 PM
^^or maybe personal responsibility?
2/21/2012 1:21:12 PM
^^^the legal limit is .08, meaning you can drive after a couple of drinks
2/21/2012 1:22:24 PM
^^ The lower my expectations, the less disappointment I have to deal with.^ A couple, yes. But considering the cost of a DUI vs. breathalyzer, it's stupid to be trying that shit without one. Especially considering his circle of friends is full of people that already have DUIs.[Edited on February 21, 2012 at 1:27 PM. Reason : ...]

you can have a beer or three and still drive greatit's not retard juice

i bought one from Sharper Image back when I was in college, I think it was like $80...I took it to a keg party and charged people $1 to use it...made like $20...in hindsight I should've brought it to more parties cause I could've made some bank
2/21/2012 1:28:36 PM
lewoods, you are contradicting yourself with each post

i had a ton of filters, it was sanitary
2/21/2012 1:36:42 PM
I got mono in college at a party, but I'd like to think it was from the freshman with the lip ring instead of some bootlegged breathalyzer. Good thing we're several years apart.
2/21/2012 1:51:29 PM
^mono can incubate for a month or more, so there's no real way to pin down how you got it.
2/21/2012 1:54:44 PM
I once thought I had mono for an entire year. It turned out I was just really bored.

lewoods, such a cunt, it's no wonder they banned ur weird ass from ncsportbikes.com
2/21/2012 3:20:46 PM
I wonder how much money they saved using that model.
2/21/2012 3:25:08 PM
I had one from some manufacturer HAWK, or something, it never worked, it would always say error, what a waste of money.
2/21/2012 3:45:17 PM
Do you like to get shitfaced drunk every day?Tired of forgetting your breathalyzer because you're too wasted?Well Kisai has made this watch for you!
2/21/2012 4:03:06 PM
I got one via my family's white elephant exchange this year, and have used it (with others) a few times, but I never felt it was really accurate. then again, I never read anythign about how long between drinks you're supposed to use it.
2/21/2012 4:18:43 PM
i'd never trust a store-bought consumer model to be super accurate...but if you blow a 0.02 you're probably good to drive...if you blow a 0.24 you're probably wasted...good for general guessing
2/21/2012 4:40:55 PM
If you're getting one, for any semblance of accuracy at all, it needs to use a fuel cell sensor. That alone will put you in the $100+ range
2/21/2012 6:43:56 PM
I wonder if it would help at all in a court of law if you had one and got pulled and you showed the cop that yours said it read like say .05 and it claimed an accuracy of +/- .02. Then on his it claims you are over the limit. Seems like you did everything in your power to attempt to be safe and the product failed to meet its stated tolerance. Seems like you have a lawsuit against the company that made it at least haha.
2/21/2012 6:57:10 PM
Do they have one of these for a smartphone? And, if they don't, you fuckers better not steal my idea.
2/21/2012 7:03:43 PM
I have an AlcoHawk slim. One thing people don't realize is that breathalyzers are sensitive instruments that require calibration and careful procedures before taking a measurement--which is why you often can't trust them.
2/21/2012 7:11:13 PM
^^^ Pretty sure they all have multiple disclaimers against using them to determine your legal driving ability. Not that that would probably deter some people from suing.
2/21/2012 7:34:14 PM
a breathalyzer cant be used in court as proof of drunkness.it says in the booklets of the personal breathalyzers.ive got a bac track s75. its awesome. had to re-calibrate it after ~300 blows. we used it everywhere. even after 300 blows it wasnt that far off calibration. but still worth the $20/year or whatever to get it calibrated.

i'd never trust a store-bought consumer model to be super accurate...but if you blow a 0.02 have only had one or two drinks and you feel great you're probably good to drive...if you blow a 0.24 can barely stand and you feel like puking you're probably wasted...good for general guessingGod damn. You guys have some problems if you need to bring around your own personal breathalyzer when you go out drinking.
2/26/2012 11:15:40 AM
if puking is your measure of too drunk to drive then you're fucked
2/26/2012 11:16:28 AM
Not at all. I've had alcohol on more than one occassion to know when I can and can't drive. If you need a cheap breathalyzer to confirm your suspicions on whether you've had too much to drink, you shouldn't be driving anyway.
