The idiot in the SUV was mashing on the brakes way too much considering the icy conditions. I knew within 5 seconds that they were gonna lose control.Tough way to learn a driving lesson.[Edited on February 27, 2012 at 11:07 PM. Reason : 2]

if i was the guy in the driving the car in the inside lane beside the semi, i'd probably have some Final Destination nightmares[Edited on February 27, 2012 at 11:15 PM. Reason : v are you british? lorries?]
2/27/2012 11:13:45 PM
A side impact with a lorrie at 55mph is not survivable in any vehicle.
2/27/2012 11:13:51 PM
Right around 0:24 to 0:25, it kind of looks like a body skidding down the road in the very left of the screen. I think it's just the bumper, though.

i can't stop watching, shit is so nuts

^^
2/27/2012 11:17:04 PM
^^I wonder what went thru the drivers head, and how does one avoid a crash like that after sliding on ice, maybe not overcorrect? lol
2/27/2012 11:20:03 PM
lol at "lorrie"
2/27/2012 11:20:57 PM
^^You slow the fuck down and stay as far away from other vehicles as you can. If he hadn't been right beside that panel truck he would have slid safely into the ditch.[Edited on February 27, 2012 at 11:25 PM. Reason : lol]

Yeah, I remember learning if you slide dont slam the breaks or the gas, release your foot and maintain a steady steering handle. I HATE driving right next to a vehicle because I don't trust their skills, I had a bad accident where someone slammed into me from the side and threw me into a median.Poor soul never had a chance.
2/27/2012 11:30:40 PM
If they would have accelerated after bouncing off the box truck, they could have potentially missed the semi.what you do is different for front wheel drive vs. rear wheel drive and whether you have traction/stability control or not.
2/27/2012 11:55:51 PM
^yep...of course if they hadn't swerved into the snowy/icy middle of the road in the first place, the whole thing could've been avoided
2/27/2012 11:58:28 PM
I thought about the acceleration. Wonder if too slippery for it to matter though
2/27/2012 11:58:32 PM
y'all that is so scary to watch, yet I can't stop clicking this threadI mean damn
2/28/2012 12:01:05 AM
who is going to be the user to post this in qntmfred's I believe in a future thread
2/28/2012 12:04:26 AM
Comments saying that there were two passengers, both survived.
2/28/2012 12:04:47 AM
^yeah no doubt...youtube comments are always truthful, clearly it looked like there were survivors
2/28/2012 12:07:51 AM
Seriously. And the comments I'm seeing are saying the guy died
2/28/2012 12:09:30 AM
Yes because I said I believed the comments.

if somebody posted that in russian, as if it was a russian who had heard about it on the news, and someone who speaks both english and russian had translated and linked to a news story, i still wouldnt believe anyone could possibly survive that collisionnacstate you're a smart guy and i like you, but it seemed like you actually put some stock in that comment despite seeing the horrific explosion of metal
2/28/2012 12:14:38 AM
So he should have stayed right and hit the gas instead of reeling left to straighten out and way overcompensating
2/28/2012 12:20:53 AM
It would be awesome if they did survive though, you gotta admit that.
2/28/2012 12:21:36 AM
yeah no doubt, i'm still amazed the car driving beside the 18 wheeler managed to basically avoid everythingbut that was the perfect storm of car wrecks, hypothetically i'd like to see mythbusters recreate that with the semi hitting a tank or something, or another semi

I see. He probably freaked about crossing into oncoming traffic so mistakenly turned right
2/28/2012 12:28:45 AM
He was in the high speed lane, boxed in by traffic and going too fast. Once the accident began he didn't have a chance...not enough room to control the skid.
2/28/2012 12:34:53 AM
After watching it again it seems he wasn't paying attention. He drove well into that patch of snow before the skid. Like someone who is on the phone will do before correcting. That lane had plenty of clear road for his big suv.
