Would you do in NYC over the christmas holidays? Anyone have any links to good hotels in the times square area? Christmas tree at rockefeller? Any of the late night shows? And go!

Last time I was up in Manhattan for Christmas, we stayed in a hotel within walking distance of St. Pat's and Rockefeller. Can't remember the name but it was near the Waldorf Astoria. We just booked a super discounted 4-star hotel on Priceline or whatever and it worked out really well. I recommend that area rather than in Times Square because Rockefeller and 5th Avenue get really decked out for Christmas. It was also nice being able to walk to St. Pat's for midnight mass rather than deal with the subway that time of night if that's your sort of thing.Check out what's on Broadway and see about getting some tickets while you're there. We saw Avenue Q Christmas Day which was awesome. Other than Christmas Day most of the tourist stuff should be open so just do what you would normally want to do in NYC.

I'd hit up Chinatown in QueensI'd go see a show at the Knitting Factory in BK
11/27/2012 3:28:09 PM
I think the Manhattan Chinatown is awesome! And way easier to get to if he's staying in midtown. Just hop off the subway and try a restaurant, most of them are pretty cheap and you can get some awesome food.
11/27/2012 4:35:06 PM
^ Try Joe's Shanghai (Pell and Bowery) for something different (Soup Dumplings), though there will be a wait and it's much more expensive than the other Chinese places, very good quality though. There are a ton of other places that do soup dumplings too if you don't want to spend as much. Shanghai Cafe is one that's decent and cheap (Mott and Canal)Late night you gotta go to Wo Hop on Mott and Mosco and get some type of noodle dish, I'd say chow fun...they'll serve you a TsingTao at all hours too and you can get the best T-Shirt you'll own for $6Outside of that the above tip is right, you can walk into any place and score a great, cheap meal, but try and read some tips first. Just like diners, these places all serve the same 134 dishes and they're hardly all good at every dish. Figure out which dish the one you're in makes bestA couple other non-Chinese Chinatown area suggestions:35 - Awesome Thai food on Lispenard St, just sound of CanalJaya - Malaysian, gotta get the Sweet Basil Chicken over riceThai Son - Shit ain't Thai son it's Vietnamese. Guys, I think he's looking for more than just food. Food is food. You'll have some awesome experiences in NY but it's still just food. Get out and experience, local NY stuff. Chinatown is great just to walk through--don't even have to eat. [Edited on November 27, 2012 at 5:19 PM. Reason : jank]

haha I used to work doing catering for Savor Catering / Brother Jimmy'stheir portrayal of NC is humorous to me and their head bbq chef didn't know dick about real NC BBQI smiled at him when he talked shit about some NC BBQ joints and they don't even serve chopped BBQalso their Brunswick stew sucks dick and the owners went to UNCBUT they used to do a 2 hr all you can eat and drink wing/ribs and beer special for under $20might still if you want to get wasted on the cheapdrinking is ungodly expensive in the city and drove me to eventually get a ticket for brown bagging in the park... this will set you back only about $25 but will require you to appear in court which, on the bright side, means you get to come back!
11/28/2012 12:45:40 AM
If this is a "couples affair" then the answer is super easy. Take a carriage ride trough Central Park. Head to tavern on the green as they pick up there regularly, get bundled in blankets, grab hot spiked cider, and have a Clydesdale tote you trough the park to see all the lights and displays. It's super clutch. If you are by traveling with a significant other then pull a few grand out, head to Scores Gentlemens Club and get laid by a supermodel dressed as a raindeerBoth are a good time
