So I'm think about getting mirena. My sister had a hard time with her insertion and end up hemoragging in the ER, so that kinda scares ( she's also had a baby before, whereas I haven't, so you'd think she'd be fine)That aside, I don't think it means I would have a problem. I need a method that doesn't have estrogen ( I have enough lol) I also want something I dont have to think about. Right now I have the nuvaring and it's been great but the extra estrogen in my system has been messing up other things.[Edited on November 28, 2012 at 8:07 PM. Reason : ]

I just finished reading about 10 pages of this thread. http://www.mothering.com/community/t/200926/paraguard-reviews-mirena-vs-paragard-iud/270What I got from it:Paraguard = heavy period for 2 weeks/month, Mirena = massive weight gain and hair loss.maybe I'll just go back on the ring.

whoever invented the IUD deserves a Nobel Peace PrizeI have dated 3 girls with them...I know at least 2 of them were copper, and neither of them gained weight or had mega-periods or any other negative effects. The other one worked fine for a while, but then got dislodged or something so she had it taken out.

My girl has had pretty much nothing but good to say about hers. A+++ would buy again

One of the main reasons I would get an IUD would be for the decreased periods, so the thought of having a longer/heavier one dissuades me from the paraguard. But all the Mirena side effects don't sound very nice either

So if a girl has one of these, a dude can freely bust up in her on regular intervals without the fear of knocking her up?

^^ the majority of BC options have side effects lists like that, especially if you're looking at online forums. I know about 8 women who have them and love them, and only 1 or 2 who didn't.

Had Mirena twice after each kid. Love it. Insertion was easier the first time around, but the second time I wasn't dilated at all. No side effects other than NO period after a few months. And my fertility returned right away when I was ready for baby number two. It's even my preference over tube tying.
