They have pretty flowers I'd try to get them to bloom

they usually die after they bloom, though... most care instructions suggest clipping the flower buds off. they need very bright light and to stay moist at all times, though not so wet it gets stinky. stinky soil = dead roots

Years ago I had flies that kept getting into my place from who knows where. I got a venus fly trap (at the time it had I think 5 traps) just for the hell of it. I came home from work the next day and all 5 traps were closed and there were no flies. It died shortly afterward but no flies came back (Maybe they could smell digesting flies or something?). Later I found that they can die if they overeat. Feeding them isn't required though, they can live perfectly fine on just water and sunlight.

I was really surprised when I found out that Venus Fly Traps are native to North Carolina. Apparently its the only place in the world they are native to. Crazy

When I was a kid my dad showed me some that were growing wild in a ditch down the street from our house. The next time I saw a live one was in 2006 on a Walmart shelf. iirc they need soil that's low in nitrogen[Edited on January 24, 2013 at 8:55 PM. Reason : .]

I learned about these in first grade. The teacher took the class outside and we found some wild ones. I accused my teacher of planting them there.

Venus Fly Traps are really delicate. Much harder to keep alive than people think. And they are really tiny, too. It's one of those things that nature is good enough at doing, but it's harder for people to replicate in closed settings, like panda babies.
