If you heard this, what would you think?Would you not infer that the author was referring to population?
3/7/2013 11:02:23 PM
largest population of people who don't take a bath
3/7/2013 11:03:28 PM
godless hippies and queerosexuals
3/7/2013 11:04:02 PM
I would think, "You're wrong."
3/7/2013 11:06:32 PM
I'd infer that I was reading some third-rate pseudonews article. or somebody's blog.
3/7/2013 11:06:33 PM
no, I would infer that the author was referring to land area
3/7/2013 11:12:59 PM
3/7/2013 11:13:36 PM
Largest doesnt mean anything without units
3/7/2013 11:15:00 PM
What's the largest state by volume from sea level?I would think its still probably Alaska but colarado might be up there also.
3/7/2013 11:17:39 PM
I would infer population if we were talking about largest cities, but not for states and countries.Don't know why I think like that.
3/7/2013 11:20:22 PM
no fatties
3/7/2013 11:25:22 PM
Texas is bigger geographically than California. Then Alaska came along. Texas protested, they didn't like being number 2. Alaska offered to split into two states so Texas could be number 3. Lesson: Alaska is fucking huge.

Sure it does. Which state contains the most cubic feet of land mass, if counted up from sea level?
3/8/2013 12:38:04 AM
what about bodies of water that are above sea level?
3/8/2013 12:44:16 AM
NON-GASEOUS MATTER ABOVE GRADE
3/8/2013 12:45:22 AM
so volume above sea level. not from sea level, from implies distance.
3/8/2013 12:56:05 AM
it would still be Colorado or Alaska right
3/8/2013 1:06:38 AM
it's alaska in spades.]
3/8/2013 1:10:48 AM
Sounds like you need to improve your communication skills.
3/8/2013 8:10:04 AM
Isn't alaska almost half the size of the other 49 states combined?
3/8/2013 8:13:52 AM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_area
3/8/2013 8:17:28 AM
^^alaska is 21% of the area of the contiguous states.
3/8/2013 8:23:11 AM
California is little Mexico
3/8/2013 8:24:16 AM
3/8/2013 8:33:38 AM
3/8/2013 8:45:56 AM
but is still a mile high.....
3/8/2013 8:48:06 AM
3/8/2013 8:55:06 AM
^^still flat! Average altitude in Alaska: 1900 ftAverage altitude in Colorado: 6800 ft (quite impressive actually). Still not enough to offset the massive size of Alaska though.1900ft/5280ft = 0.36 miles x 663,268 sq miles = 238,676 cubic miles for Alaska6800ft/5280ft = 1.29 miles x 104,094 sq miles = 134,060 cubic miles for ColoradoDefinitely an interesting comparison to say the least.[Edited on March 8, 2013 at 9:54 AM. Reason : ^I dunno why that graphic says 586,400 sq miles for Alaska. I used Wiki's figures]
3/8/2013 9:53:21 AM
So in other words I was totally right.Alaska is still the largest but Colorado is definitely "up there"
3/8/2013 11:19:04 PM
What's Montana's volume?
3/9/2013 9:12:22 AM
largest, in terms of population maybe, but the correct term is 'most populous'. It's approaching 40 million people.it is still a pretty fucking huge state though. The drive from San Diego to Crescent City along coastal CA 1/Hwy 101 takes about 20 hours and is around 1000 miles.Interestingly enough, no matter where you are in CA, you're never more than 4-5 hours from either the ocean or a mountain range. And in terms of geographic/climate diversity/variety, no state other than Alaska or Hawaii even comes close to offering what CA has.
